Role overview 

CarGurus is looking for a highly motivated Sr. Principal, Business Operations & Strategy to lead Digital Retail efforts across the organization. You will work cross functionally to implement critical business initiatives and will have the opportunity to work alongside leadership teams in Sales, Marketing, Business Development, Finance, and Product.  

You’ll not only be helping to guide the strategy, but you’ll also be gaining operational experience in leading and growing existing business lines. A successful candidate will have strong analytical, presentation, and executive presence to work cross-functionally to implement change.  

We seek thoughtful, daringly curious candidates who can dive into sophisticated data, draw insightful conclusions, and translate to an executive audience. By helping set and implement elements of our strategy, you will have a visible and real-world impact across a wide range of CarGurus’ businesses. 

What you'll do 

  • Own and drive expansion of existing DR business lines. Continuously monitors business fundamentals; proactively discovers problems before they occur and identifies opportunities that move the business forward (includes regular reporting on health of the business)
  • Lead efforts on sophisticated business analyses and advanced modeling and translate data into actionable insights.
  • Organize and facilitate core business planning, operating cadences, and leadership engagement to achieve organizational outcomes.
  • Determine comprehensive sales, product, and business strategies that solve complex business challenges and address the needs of customers and stakeholders across various functions to drive incremental growth.
  • Lead comprehensive research and analysis on market trends, customer behaviors, and competitive positions to identify opportunities to scale Operations and drive maximum value for the business.
  • Deliver polished presentations with data-driven insights and a strategic narrative to influence executives to adopt recommended strategies. Determine actionable plans and roadmaps, align cross-functional stakeholders and lead successful implementation of large and complex change initiatives.

What you'll bring 

  • 6+ years of experience in management consulting, sales operations, business strategy, investment banking, venture capital, private equity, or corporate advisory experience or 4 years of experience with an advanced degree (experience in consumer, automotive, digital, or SaaS industries a plus) 
  • 2+ years of experience working with executive stakeholders.
  • Experience collaborating with multiple stakeholders across organizational boundaries.
  • Structured problem-solving skills/critical thinking combined with strong business acumen.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to take complex, ambiguous topics and turn them into compelling narratives for different audiences.
  • Proficiency in BI and reporting tools (g. Looker, Salesforce), or demonstrated ability to learn a new tool 
  • Ability to operate at breadth and depth
