Senior Plate Structures FEA Analyst
A Senior FEA Analyst for Plate Structures is a critical role in ensuring the safety and functionality of storage tanks, pressure vessels, and other similar components. They must have a deep understanding of structural mechanics, materials, and industry codes, and the ability to conduct advanced finite element analysis (FEA) to evaluate and optimize these structures.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct FEA simulations to assess the structural integrity, stability, and performance of Plate Structures.
- Develop and refine structural design concepts and solutions based on analysis results.
- Ensure compliance with relevant industry codes and standards (e.g., ASME, API) in the design process.
- Create detailed finite element models of Plate Structures, accounting for material properties, geometry, and loading conditions.
- Perform linear and nonlinear FEA simulations to evaluate stresses, deformations, and other relevant parameters.
- Investigate the effects of various operating conditions (temperature, pressure, etc.) on the structure's behavior.
- Perform fatigue analysis to estimate the life expectancy of the structure under cyclic loading conditions.
- Analyze the stability of Plate Structures to prevent buckling.
- Investigate any structural failures, identify root causes, and propose corrective actions.
- Prepare and review design documentation to demonstrate code compliance.
- Collaborate with design engineers, and other disciplines to optimize designs and resolve issues.
- Provide technical guidance to junior analysts and other team members.
- Maintain detailed records of analysis methodologies, assumptions, and results for future reference and auditing purposes.
- Prepare comprehensive reports and documentation for regulatory agencies, clients, and internal use.
- Ensure the accuracy and reliability of FEA results through quality assurance processes.
- Review and validate FEA models and results to eliminate errors and uncertainties.
- Stay current with industry trends, software tools, and analysis techniques.
- Seek opportunities for innovation and improved efficiency in FEA processes.
- Assess safety risks associated with the design and operation of Plate Structures and propose risk mitigation strategies.
Qualifications and Skills
- Hold a Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Structural or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited AET university or its equivalent.
- Possess over 10 years of experience in conducting finite element analysis using Ansys APDL and Ansys Workbench.
- Preferably, have a background in working with LS-DYNA.
- Must be familiar with the utilization of APDL command snippets within Workbench Mechanical.
- Demonstrate exceptional proficiency in various forms of finite element analysis, including but not limited to static structural, linear/nonlinear, elastic-plastic, thermal (steady-state and transient), buckling, fatigue, modal, response spectrum, and time-history analysis.
- Exhibit excellent skills in the analysis of Plate Structures subjected to different types of loads, including internal/external pressures, wind loads, seismic loads, snow loads, blast loads, and impact loads.
- Knowledge of tank design codes such as API 650, API 620, API 625, ACI 376, and EN14620.
- Be well-versed in vessel design codes including ASME Section VIII, Division 1 and 2, and PD 5500.
- Familiarity with LNG-related US and EN regulatory codes and standards, such as 49 CFR 193, NFPA 59A, and EN1473 is preferred.
- Have a thorough understanding of ASME VIII, Division 2, Part 5, which pertains to "Design by Analysis."
- Experience in creep-fatigue analysis at elevated temperatures in accordance with ASME Section III, Division 5 will be considered an additional advantage.
- Must possess strong report writing skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and effective time management.
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Commitment to safety, ethics, and integrity in all aspects of work.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills
- Holds Ph.D. in Structural or Mechanical Engineering
- Experience in the analysis of large LNG Storage Tanks
