Milliman is a healthcare consulting company having broad expertise to support a variety of different clients. Each project team is selected to support the client’s needs and may require a cross-functional approach. The project team may include pharmacists, doctors, actuaries, health care analysts, and data scientists.

The health practice is a high-performing environment with multiple subject matter experts, who work together to solve complex problems related to pharmacy benefits, reimbursement, supply, and strategy.

The Senior Pharmacy Management Consultant will be developing and delivering innovative, market-leading strategies that will encompass various markets and pharmacy stakeholders while being able to learn from other subject matter experts within the cross-functional team.

Job Responsibilities

  • Ability to engage in and contribute to strategic discussions with executive c-suite level leadership in the pharmacy benefits area.
  • Use pharmacy clinical and financial knowledge to diagnose and solve client problems in a managed care setting.
  • Manage client relationships within large matrix organizations.
  • Design and deliver innovative strategic support to clients by developing proposals, creating presentations, and delivering innovative, market-leading recommendations to clients.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert of pharmacy reimbursement strategy with payer clients.
  • Create new and expand upon existing consulting relationships with health plans, PBMs, pharmaceutical manufacturers, and other entities of the pharmacy supply chain. 

 Potential projects could include:

  • Medicare Part D, Medicaid, and/or commercial pharmacy formulary analyses
  • Lead PBM RFPs for payer clients, day to day consulting and PBM audits
  • Strategic support in pharmaceutical M&A or joint venture

Minimum requirements

  • 10+ years of PBM or relevant consulting experience
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Excel
  • Basic proficiency using Microsoft Word and Power Point
  • Master of Business Administration, Master of Public Health, or other relevant degree preferred

Competencies and Behaviors that Support Success in this Role 

  • 15+ years working experience, preferably at a consulting firm, PBM, managed care organization, health plan, or pharmaceutical company
  • Experience working with Medicare, Medicaid, PBMs, Pharmaceutical Manufacturers, and/or commercial payers
  • Experience solving complex problems with innovative, creative solutions.
  • Experience understanding large pharmacy claims data sets
  • Deep understanding of pharmacy purchasing and reimbursement environment including pharmacy cost metrics such as average wholesale price, wholesale acquisition costs, average sales price, actual acquisition costs, and rebates
  • Strong sense of accountability and business acumen

Salary: The salary range is $165,000 to $345,000, depending on a combination of factors, including but not limited to education, relevant work experience, qualifications, skills, certifications, location, etc. This role is open to candidates who can work remotely anywhere in the US.  

Location: This role is based out of the Milliman offices in Chicago, IL, Milwaukee, WI, Hartford, CT, but candidates hired into this role may work remotely anywhere in the US.
