Job description

Are you an experienced Payroll Specialist looking for an opportunity to join a collaborative team and process multi-state payroll?

We are currently seeking a highly skilled and experienced Sr. Payroll Specialist to join our team in Portland, OR!

Important Details:

  • This position works a hybrid schedule with onsite days Monday and Wednesday
  • Remote work on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday
  • $27 - $29/hour based on experience + medical, dental and vision benefits

The Sr. Payroll Specialists’ primary responsibility is to ensure data accuracy in relation to payroll processing. This position will serve as a resource for multiple companies within the Radius Recycling umbrella and should demonstrate proficiency in timeliness, communication and building positive inter-department relationships. They should promote process enhancement and best practices in a team environment.

Essential Functions:

  • Prepare and process both weekly and bi-weekly payroll through UKG.
  • Retrieve timeclock data through Kronos and validate for general accuracy.
  • Review and audit the payroll in detail to ensure accuracy prior to transmission and provide reports and data as needed post-transmission.
  • Process manual checks as needed based on state wage and hour regulations.
  • Gain familiarity and understanding of union contracts as they relate to payroll functions.
  • Have solid knowledge of US regulations on pay policies.
  • Review and take the appropriate action for employee changes (new hires, terminations, rate changes, status changes, etc.)
  • Research and resolve payroll related issues with excellent customer service.
  • Consult with Payroll Supervisor or Payroll Manager on compliance and escalate issues as they arise.
  • Work closely with the HR Business Partners and field supervisors on resolving payroll related issues.
  • Keep informed of changes in tax and deduction laws that apply to the payroll processes.
  • Prioritize a high-volume workload efficiently and be able to meet payroll transmission deadlines.
  • Intermediate skills with MS Products, such Excel, Word, etc.
  • Assist in special projects as assigned by management.

Interpersonal Contacts:

This position involves phone, written, and face-to-face contact with all levels of employees from entry level clerks to executive officers. Communication ranges from answering simple questions to discussing company policies. External contacts by phone, in writing or face-to-face include all levels of job applicants, government agencies, attorneys, consultants, and other HR professionals.

Job Conditions:

The Payroll Team is currently working in the corporate headquarters (Portland, Oregon) two days per week and remotely three days per week, which is subject to change.

Physical Activities Required to Perform Essential Functions:

Ability to: Sit for extended periods of time, up to 6-8 hours per day; write by hand and/or keyboard for extended periods of time, up to 6-8 hours per day; bend at waist, twist upper body, stand, walk, and negotiate uneven surfaces; assemble papers, staple, and file; apply sufficient force to open and close file drawers. Ability to: communicate both by phone and in person in a professional manner. Visual acuity needed for close detail work. Adaptability to change within a growing organization.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2-3 years of payroll processing experience.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly with team members, management, employees and external individuals and agencies in an efficient and effective manner.
  • Strong work ethic, demonstrating integrity and trust as well as the ability to maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and diplomacy.
  • Exceptional attention to detail with a high level of accuracy.
  • The flexibility to accept and adapt to change as well as the commitment to seek continuous improvement.
  • Forward thinking with the ability to propose improvement on inefficiencies.
  • Able to meet tight deadlines.
  • UKG experience preferred but not required.
  • Canadian payroll processing preferred but not required.
