Title: Senior Paralegal
Job type: FTE/Permanent
Location: Montvale, NJ
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Manage and oversee U.S. and international trademark and patent portfolios
Conduct and analyze trademark availability searches
Research and prepare cost estimates for filing domestic and foreign trademark and patent applications and renewals
Prepare and file U.S. trademark applications, responses to office actions, requests for extensions of time, statements of use, declarations of use, declarations of incontestability, renewals, and other filings related to U.S. trademark prosecution
Prepare and file other documentation with the USPTO including assignment agreements, change of name filings, and any other updates with the USPTO
Under attorney supervision, correspond and coordinate with outside counsel for recordation of ownership transfers
Under attorney supervision, correspond and coordinate with outside counsel to file foreign trademark applications, renewals, provisional refusal responses, oppositions/cancellations and other documents
Under attorney supervision, conduct IP due diligence, including trademarks, patents, copyrights, and domain names
Coordinate and manage intake of newly acquired trademark and patent portfolios
Assist with other special intellectual property projects including demand letters
With regard to contracts, receive requests for agreements of all types, prepare certain standardized form agreements and some ad hoc agreements, review them for accuracy under attorney supervision, and manage contracts during their lifespan
Serve as primary in-house support staff in litigation, claims, and demands matters
Maintain and update files in the internal share folder
Code invoices for payment when related to job areas
Other duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS:
College diploma or equivalent preferred, plus at least five years of experience or combination of experience and specialized paralegal or legal secretarial education
Experience in a corporate legal department is preferred
Completion of a paralegal program is desirable
Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment on various matters of significance
Ability to compose, type and assemble information in proper legal form
Set up and maintain a wide variety of legal files, records and reports
Follow complex oral and written instructions
Prepare routine legal documents
Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
Commute to our Montvale, NJ headquarters or our Layton, UT office
Hybrid work model (expected to be in the office three days a week)
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
Ability to handle multiple, concurrent projects and generate high quality work product
Strong organizational skills and high level of attention to detail
Ability to multi-task, take initiative and be adaptable Highest level of integrity, sound judgment and strong work ethic
Knowledge of basic legal concepts, principles, and procedures including calendaring and filing practices; legal and business terminology, spelling, grammar and punctuation; MS Office suite including PowerPoint and Excel; operation of basic office equipment including computer, telephone, fax, copier, and calculator
Ability to efficiently accomplish the above duties and responsibilities
