Job description

Job Summary:

Galore Creek Mining Corporation (GCMC), a partnership between Newmont Corporation (Newmont) and Teck Resources Limited (Teck), is committed to advancing the asset towards a development decision with meaningful input from the Tahltan Nation and BC regulators. GCMC highly values its long-standing relationship with the Tahltan Nation, and continues to implement the 2006 Participation Agreement, including involving the Tahltan Nation in regulatory processes and review of environmental performance, and providing preferential contracting and employment opportunities.  Working closely with the Tahltan Nation and local communities, we strive for excellence in all our activities, with continuous improvement and responsible practices that contribute to sustainable development.

More information on the Project is available at www.gcmc.ca.

    • Manage the completion of internal and external mineral processing test work programs including bench scale and pilot plant programs to inform process flowsheet designs.  The test work program will be primarily based on samples derived from drilling completed in the summer of 2023.
    • Update the project's throughput, metal recovery and product quality models based on test work and any other relevant data / analysis.
    • Assist with the completion of waste and tailings characterization test work and interpretation programs.
    • Ensure that the test work and data interpretation align with GCMC partner standards and stage gate process requirements.
    • Assist with process engineering aspects of the Galore Creek project with EPCM firms working as part of the owner's team.
    • Support the development of capital and operating costs estimates for the Galore Creek process plant and tailings facilities.
    • Provide input into the overall project and operational business model, along with other disciplines such as mine engineering, geology, etc. to help ensure optimized development plans.
    • Manage inputs and assumptions for specific economic analyses related to the required studies.
    • Assist with cost forecasting and budget development. Maintain metallurgy costs within budget and forecasted amounts.
Qualifications:
    • University degree or equivalent technical designation in Mineral Processing, Metallurgical or Chemical Engineering.
    • P. Eng. designation is required with ideally 10 or more years of progressively senior level experience in a technical environment.
    • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. The ability to present technical information clearly and concisely to a broad audience is particularly important.
    • A track record of successful management of base metal and/or precious metal metallurgical test work programs including interpretating the results in the development of recovery, throughput and product quality models and projections.
    • Broad understanding of geo-metallurgical principles including experience linking geological and metallurgical interpretations.
    • Good understanding of mine development and operating best practices including management of health and safety, exploration, resource development and planning, mining and waste management, processing, logistics, and specifically regulatory matters including closure planning.
    • Have a high level of technical knowledge related to mineral processing of base metal and precious metal ores. Be well versed in the latest technological innovations in mineral processing plant design.
    • Proven ability to build relationships across multi-disciplinary technical teams and work as an effective team member on projects.
