COMPENSATION: $130,000 - $150,000/yr

Role Summary:

The Senior Materials Science/Chemical Engineer will leverage their expertise in chemistry, polymer science, coating science, material science and chemical engineering to lead projects in adhesive coating development and selection for medical device. The ideal candidate will have experience working as part of a product development team with diverse technical and non-technical backgrounds. We are looking for a team player who views medical device development as a competitive advantage.

Responsibilities:

• Lead project in adhesive coating development and selection for medical device
• Design and prepare optically clear adhesives and binding agents compatible with a variety of surfaces, including biological tissues, glass, paraffin and plastics.
• Responsible for formulation and characterization of adhesive tape coating
• Lead photochemistry design
• Assist in developing method of thin coating resins
• Conduct chemical analysis, mainly solvent resistance, of various adhesive coatings
• Generate input for intellectual property such as patents
• Conduct testing, results analysis, and reporting
• Collaborate with manufacturers to procure materials and finished goods

Qualifications:

• PhD in Polymer Engineering, Material Science, Physical Chemistry or related engineering field
• 5+ years industry experience in polymers
• Understanding of application of polymer synthesis and characterization techniques
• Proven experience successfully developing new products and applications that have gone out to market
• Experience with formulation of polymerizing resins for bonding applications
• Experience sourcing industrial and medical adhesives for tape
• Coating chemistry design – Glass Chemistry is a plus
• Clinical chemistry or chemical pathology knowledge a plus
• Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
• Time management skills to prioritize and meet deadlines
• Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
• Flexibility to work in a changing and fast paced environment
• Drive, determination and ability to hit aggressive milestones/deadlines
