SUMMARY
The Senior Researcher is responsible for designing and managing market research projects with minimal supervision. This includes defining methodology, developing instruments, overseeing fielding of studies, and analyzing and reporting on product and/or marketing research to inform the product development life cycle. This position works as a consultant with internal stakeholders to understand, define, and document the overarching objectives of the research, and recommend the appropriate methodology. The Senior Researcher applies qualitative and quantitative techniques to interpret the data and produce recommendations, and advises product teams of findings and resulting implications.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Consult with internal stakeholders to understand and document the objectives of the research.
  • Design and recommend a research methodology that will achieve business objectives. Present project plans to the manager and relevant product teams which describe the issues, research objectives, proposed methodology, recommended sample frame, schedule, and cost.
  • Manage all aspects of research studies, including the roles and responsibilities of the various stakeholders, ensuring all necessary inputs are received, deliverables are provided on time, and the key research objectives laid out are met.
  • Develop or assist in the development of detailed questionnaires with complex branching, discussion guides and instruction protocols for respondents, observational research instruments and other tools to ensure the necessary data is captured.
  • Oversee the fielding of studies, including formulating the sampling/analysis plans, and cleaning/scrubbing the collected data.
  • Moderate qualitative studies when needed. Program and test surveys within the online survey tool.
  • Summarize and analyze data, make recommendations related to research findings.
  • Report findings, complete with graphs illustrating data and written text explaining complex findings. Deliver reports and present findings to management and/or executive leadership.
  • Manage the work of research vendors.
  • Manage and track research budget and schedule for all research studies assigned.
  • Stay current on trends and events in research and education, this may include attending key conferences, subscriptions to key newsletters and other publications.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
Related Work Experience:
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in market research.
  • Experience with online survey software, Qualtrics preferred.
  • Understanding of secondary research as well as primary and qualitative and quantitative market research methodologies is required, including experience with multiple methods, multivariate analyses, and a variety of qualitative methods including in-person/remote focus groups, in-person/remote interviews, bulletin board focus groups, and others.
  • Experience working with the K-12 education industry/sector preferred.
  • A proven and demonstrated track record of leading research that addresses key business objectives.
Formal Education or Equivalent:
  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Research, Business, or Social Sciences required. Masters degree desired.
Skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communications– Must be able to effectively represent the research function in meetings with general managers and appropriate business unit staff. Must be able to clearly communicate study results, conclusions, and suggested actions in writing and verbally at meetings with colleagues and management.
  • Excellent organizational ability –Must be able to work independently on multiple projects at a time, prioritize own work, and set and meet deadlines. Must be able to motivate others to meet deadlines necessary for project execution and completion. Excellent negotiating skills are required in dealing with the product management/development teams as well as vendors.
  • Flexible work attitude, a good team player– Must be a flexible person who deals well with a wide range of people (from senior executives to vendors). Must be adaptable to changes in plans, schedules, or other work requirements. Must be flexible to try out new methods as they emerge.
  • Ability to problem solve - Must be able to find creative solutions to problems that arise which threaten, or negatively impact, the completion of a project or the efficiency of the team.
  • Detail oriented- Must be able to deal easily with many diverse project details and ensure timely completion of all project steps. Must be comfortable with all types of work, including basic statistical operations and multivariate analyses.
  • High degree of diplomacy and self-initiative.
  • This person must be able to sit or stand at a personal computer for a reasonable length of time typing and reading as well as when presenting
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality is critical to successful performance in this role.
