The Role:

As an individual contributor engineer, this role will be engaged in developing manufacturing and Machining Processes, equipment/tooling alternatives, sequence, and flow of operations for the effective utilization of personnel, material, machines, and facilities necessary to produce machined components. Work will be performed in an engine component machining plant, requiring creativity, initiative, and a high-level of independent judgement. The ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced manufacturing environment is critical for success in this role.

Other responsibilities will include:

  • You will analyze and implement product or machinery designs for the best method for manufacturing processes
  • You will propose and evaluate the processes for equipment in assigned area
  • Direct the design, development, and/or improvement of manufacturing processes for assigned area
  • You will keep regular contact with partners outside the work group
  • You will provide direction to small group of technical employees
  • You may evaluate or monitor expenditures for processes and/or equipment
  • Ensure that manufacturing processes are effectively maintained for assigned area
  • Support the day-to-day production needs on the production floor by maintaining solid relationships with the Production and Maintenance teams
  • Engineer, Design, Build, Implement and Maintain processes, machinery, tools, chemicals, and equipment
  • Manage significant downtime events by providing technical guidance and support
  • Drive Continuous Improvement efforts in assigned area through the elimination of waste
  • Provide capability reports to plant leadership for assigned area
  • Evaluate bottleneck areas and support throughput and productivity improvements
  • Support plant floor change management projects
  • Reduce total cost by improving productivity metrics related to tool life, equipment uptime, cycle time, and quality
  • Support implementation and training for standardized work development
  • Become a coach and teacher of lean manufacturing principles to the production floor team members
  • Work collaboratively as one team with all levels of the organization
  • Supporting improvements through TIP (Throughput Improvement Process)
  • Work collaboratively with machine and tool OEMs on the design and implementation of new equipment and tools
  • Create and Maintain Process Control Plans and PFMEAs
  • Lead plant Equipment Install / Debug / Launch / Continuous Improvement activities
  • Contribute to lessons learned activities by providing feedback and information to the central process team for Bill of Equipment/Bill of Process updates
  • Provide technical direction to, and oversight of outside vendor sources when vendors are on site
  • Develop and test of advanced process technology
  • Leverage GD&T skillsets to ensure manufacturing equipment, tooling, assembly processes, and quality verifications procedures meet design requirements
  • Problem-solve (analyze data, determine root causes, develop implementation plans) and resolve issues which are affecting quality, assembly, or throughput
  • Proactively identify & pursue opportunities to improve operations by reducing cost, reducing energy usage, improve quality, etc.
  • Support corporate and plant safety policies
  • Coordinate input from internal/external customers to better understand customer needs

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Ability and willingness to work flexible hours, at times overtime, off-shift support, as well as on-call support
  • BS in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent technical degree
  • 2+ years of Machining Process development experience in Manufacturing or Manufacturing Engineering discipline, with plant floor experience
  • Experience in troubleshooting equipment such as Problem Solving and Debug
  • Competency in GD&T
  • Understanding of Pneumatic, Mechanical, and Control drawings.
  • Understanding / Application of Part Locating / Mechanics / Machine Design
  • Understanding of Theory of Constraints
  • Experience with Time Cycle Diagrams and Man / Machine Charts
  • Ability to apply agile methodologies
  • Ability to use computer, interpret blueprints, engineering drawings and learn new systems
  • Experience in implementation of Lean Manufacturing concepts
  • Work involves providing technical direction to and coordination of less experienced Process Engineers
  • Critical thinking and an analytical mindset
  • Demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills required to build relationships with team members and customers to solve problems and resolve issues
  • Demonstrated knowledge of statistical methods as applied to process control
  • Demonstrated knowledge of quality systems and gaging methods
  • Demonstrated knowledge of PFMEAs and control plans

What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Thorough understanding of metal Machining Processes
  • Deep technical knowledge and ability in Process Engineering for machined engine components including:
  • CNC machining centers and programming
  • Crankshaft precision grinding and polishing processes
  • Cylinder Head Machining Processes
  • Cylinder Block honing processes
  • Leak testing processes and instrumentation
  • In-line gaging processes
  • Precision cutting tools, i.e., PCD, carbide, CBN, etc. and required tool set-ups
  • Multiple different ME assignments with successful individual achievements or strong team-based achievements.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple and complex projects with a high-level of autonomy and accountability for results.
  • Experience in process development, specification, procurement, and qualification of equipment & tooling.
