Position Details...
The individual reports directly to the senior director of marketing and leads a dynamic team of two direct reports, two external Public Relations firms, and several vendors. The Senior Manager proactively partners with senior firm leadership, division chairs, office managing partners, practice group leaders, individual partners, the senior director of marketing, the vice president of internal communications, and marketing and business development colleagues to craft thoughtful media outreach strategies and measurable tactical initiatives that will garner meaningful earned media for Venable. The Senior Manager will serve as the firm's main liaison with the media and as the firm's spokesperson, when appropriate.
This role involves gathering, analyzing, and synthesizing qualitative and quantitative input from a multitude of stakeholders and formulating creative and cohesive media relations strategies and related targeted campaigns that are aligned with the firm's priority business objectives. The Senior Manager will partner with timekeeper stakeholders, develop proactive media strategies, utilize crisis management expertise, drive innovation by inspiring cross-functional teams, that, in turn, will elevate Venable's brand in the marketplace. The incumbent will strategize how to best unlock synergies between Public Relations efforts and content campaigns driven by Business Development, Regional Marketing, and/or the Brand and Content Team.
The successful candidate will demonstrate...
- Bachelor's degree in related field or education/experience equivalent
- A minimum of seven years (7) of progressive experience in strategic Public Relations and communications in a law firm or similar professional services environment
- A minimum of two years (2) of experience managing and directing the work of others, including measuring and managing performance
- Track record of developing and executing media strategies
- Experience leveraging social media to further Public Relations goals
- Strong focus on vision, planning, process, project analysis, and risk assessment
- Understanding of brand strategy and its role in external communications
- Understanding of PR tools and technologies for tracking mentions and ROI
- Experience selecting external consultants, through RFP process, when appropriate
