Cytokinetics is a late-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on discovering, developing, and commercializing first-in-class muscle activators and next-in-class muscle inhibitors as potential treatments for debilitating diseases in which muscle performance is compromised and/or declining. As the Sr. Manager, Internal Controls and Audit, you will focus on ensuring delivery of an annual project plan that enables Management to meet its SOX 404 responsibilities. In this role, your primary emphasis will be on Internal Controls, accounting for approximately 80% of responsibilities, with the remaining 20% dedicated to audit activities. You will report to the Corporate Controller and bring leading practices from other SOX Governance Programs at high-growth companies and advocate for how those leading practices could be adapted within the company's internal control environment.
Responsibilities
- Manage and own the SOX project plan, ensuring efficient and timely execution of all stages of the SOX program including the IT function
- Lead cross-functional teams to assess and improve the design of the processes and controls to help scale the company
- Perform scoping and materiality assessment to identify significant accounts and key controls, including qualitative and quantitative analysis
- Collaborate with process owners and IT to update narratives, flowcharts, risk and control matrices as the business grows and processes change
- Lead SOX improvement initiatives and develop appropriate procedures, create a testing plan, and perform or coordinate SOX testing of key controls for relevant business processes
- Coordinate SOX planning and testing with external auditors and third-party SOX testers, including leading walkthroughs, providing evidence, and maintaining sufficient documentation
- Appropriately document exceptions and deficiencies, including working with process owners to develop and execute remediation plans timely
- Manage the enterprise internal control environment, including performing and maintaining annual top-down risk assessments
- Lead the creation of SOX reporting to management and the audit committee

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration with 10+ years of relevant experience including at least two years' experience with a public accounting firm; financial statement audit experience preferred
- Effective oral and written communication skills are required to allow the candidate to effectively interact with various levels of management
- Demonstrate a good understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Demonstrate a continuous improvement mindset, and possess assessment and process-oriented background with ability to adapt in a dynamic environment
- Experience with managing a team and managing projects
- Be system savvy and understand system inter-dependencies and the accounting implications
- Strong excel skills
- Strong organization skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- CPA is preferred
- Experience with financial statement audit preferred.
- Experience with Oracle Fusion would be considered pluses.
Salary pay range: $162,000 - $198,000. Actual salary at the time of hire may vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors, including, but not limited to, the candidate's relevant qualifications, skills, and experience, as well as the service line and location where this position may be filled.
