About This Opportunity
This role is responsible for leading the Company's Excise Tax function including business support, compliance & reporting, research, and audits.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Excise tax lead/SME for all ongoing fuel operations, tobacco self-distribution, accounting, and M&A strategic initiatives/projects. Responsible for identifying key considerations and risk-mitigation opportunities as well as directing function specific components to ensure alignment and obstacle elimination while balancing complex legal requirements.
- Lead Excise Tax team responsible for researching and advising operations and other stakeholders on the tax impact of existing or anticipated transactions (including acquisitions, transactions in new jurisdictions, etc.) and tax law and/or policy changes.
- Management/oversight of the Excise Tax team responsible for the timely and accurate reporting (taxing authority and financial statement) and payment of all excise and other related taxes.
- Design & lead the implementation of process improvement initiatives and performance management programs consistent with department, finance team, and Company-wide goals and objectives.
- Manage Excise Tax related audits and controversies including frequent communication with taxing authorities, defense of Company tax positions, management of Excise Tax related financial statement reserves, and presentation of expected or final audit results to tax department and/or Company leadership.
Education and Experience:
Education: Bachelors/4 yr degree
Relevant Work Experience: 10+ Years
Managment Experience: 3+ Years
- Expert knowledge of motor fuel tax laws, regulations, systems (Avalara, PDI), and accounting
- Excellent reasoning, research, and problem solving skills
