Senior, Local Marine Underwriter

Summary/Objective:

HDI Global Insurance Company is a rapidly expanding Insurance Company. With offices throughout the world, we can provide insurance solutions for our clients in over 160 countries. We are currently looking to fill a Local Marine Senior Underwriter position for local U.S. marine accounts in our Chicago office or Remote.

Essential functions:

• Production underwriter for marine accounts – both new business and renewals.
• Manage and profitably grow a local book of marine premium by managing assigned broker relationships through marketing and frequent broker visitation.
• Perform pre-renewal analysis on accounts assigned by team lead.
• Independently process, review information and underwrite renewal accounts in advance of the renewal date
• Respond in a timely manner to broker requests for quotes, policies, endorsements, loss reports and general inquiries.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

• Fundamental knowledge of insurance coverages and processes.
• Attention to detail.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to work across various underwriting and account management systems.
• Proficient at Microsoft Office Suite – especially Word and Excel.
• Customer service orientation
• Strong communication, negotiation, and presentation skills. Ability to effectively interact with individuals at various levels of both internal and external business partners. Sensitive to cultural differences.
• Proactive, think ahead, desire to learn, not afraid to ask questions.

Additional Requirements:

• 7+ years of commercial insurance underwriting experience – direct experience in global accounts and/or ocean marine preferred.
• Strong knowledge of insurance company operations – including claims adjusting, accounting and policy processing.
• College degree and/or completion of insurance industry designation program(s) – such as Associate in Insurance (AINS), Associate in Underwriting (AU) or associate in marine insurance management (AMIM)
• Work experience abroad considered an asset.
