Senior Litigation Paralegal

Scott+Scott is seeking a trial paralegal to support attorneys in a leading-edge firm located in Austin, Texas. The successful candidate will work closely with lead litigators to develop cases through discovery, review and in finalizing pleadings and managing document productions. The candidate must have strong editorial skills, in particular in proofreading and citation checking.  The position requires experience in strictly following Bluebook rules and court procedural rules for state and federal courts across the country. Familiarity with law firm practices and procedures, such as experience with electronic court filings, is a requirement.  We are seeking a candidate who has experience with complex litigation, for example: product liability cases, pharmaceutical/medical device cases, sexual abuse/human trafficking cases and/or catastrophic injury cases. Experience on the plaintiff side of such cases is preferred but not a requirement.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Providing support to the practice group’s managing partner and associates while providing guidance to junior paralegals;
• Performing the role of lead paralegal in major trials;
• Editing and proofreading documents, such as briefs, pleadings, etc.;
• Cite checking to ensure documents are compliant with Bluebook standards;
• Complete electronic filings;
• Manage a large volume of documents and information related to complex cases;
• Exhibit critical thinking and problem-solving skills in support of the case;
• Mentoring and providing direction to more junior paralegals;
• Be willing and available to work overtime as necessary;
• Be willing and able to attend trials that last several weeks.

REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor’s Degree, or;
• Successful designation as a Certified Paralegal (CP) by the National Association of Legal Assistants, Inc. (NALA) by passing the NALA certification exam or;
• Graduation from an ABA-approved program of study for paralegals, or;
• Graduation from an institutionally credited course of study for paralegals which, if not ABA-approved, requires not fewer than the equivalent of 60 semester hours of classroom study.
• A minimum of five years of law-related experience under the supervision of an attorney.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• Proficiency with trial presentation software (e.g. Trial Director);
• Strong Microsoft Office skills;
• Proficiency with Blue book citation procedures;
• Proficiency with Bloomberg, Westlaw, LexisNexis FileServe, Pacer, and electronic filing procedures (both federal and state);
• Proficiency with PowerPoint and/or Keynote
