Job Description

Senior Java Developer

Overview The Senior Java Developer is responsible for the development, integration, and implementation of applications software in a service provider environment that supports business strategies and objectives. This role provides technical consulting to management, business users, and technical associates, working closely with other developers as a mentor. As a technical specialist, this role collaborates with engineers and architects on continuous improvement initiatives and supports the implementation of business requirements for Pricing and Point of Sale (POS) modernization projects.

Responsibilities

Strategy & Planning

  • Acquire and interpret business requirements, create functional specifications, and determine the most efficient and appropriate technologies.
  • Collaborate with architects to review standards and determine the design which best meets project requirements.
  • Implement approved architecture designs.
  • Submit and review technical and process improvement recommendations as a member of the technical leadership team.

Acquisition & Deployment

  • Perform complex programming assignments based on established standards, methods, and best practices.
  • Design application and database components for development projects.
  • Perform analysis of business models, logical specifications, and customer requirements to design and build solutions using multiple technologies.
  • Identify and mitigate risks associated with projects that have high technical complexity or involve significant challenges to the business.

Operational Management

  • Maintain and modify applications, making approved changes by amending application documentation, developing detailed programming logic, and coding changes.
  • Provide support for application problems and issues.
  • Act as application Subject Matter Expert across all phases of the project life cycle.
  • Train and teach other developers.

Incidental Functions

  • Conduct research into new technologies, including tools, components, and frameworks.
  • Share knowledge and mentor development teams.
  • Manage projects and tasks as necessary.
  • Make presentations to management, business, and peer groups as requested.
  • Schedule and lead communication meetings with project members.
  • Provide tier 2, on-call support for application problems and issues.
  • Analyze program performance and act to correct deficiencies after consultation with business groups and approval of IT management.
  • Assist with projects to contribute to the efficiency and effectiveness of the organization.
  • Participate in hiring activities and ensure compliance with the equal employment opportunity policy.
  • Minimal travel is required; additional travel may be required on a project basis.
  • Work outside the standard office 7.5-hour workday may be required.

Qualifications

Formal Education & Certification

  • Bachelor's degree (or foreign equivalent) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

Knowledge & Experience

  • 5 years of IT experience.
  • 5 years of experience working on all phases of the Software Development Lifecycle.
  • 5 years of experience using Relational Database Management Systems, preferably Oracle.
  • 5 years of experience developing REST Web services.
  • 3 years of experience with JPA, Spring, Spring Boot frameworks.
  • Experience with DevOps processes including CD/CI pipelines is preferred.
