The Role
Reporting to the Director of Grid Integration Engineering, the Senior Interconnection Engineer will coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to provide engineering support throughout the execution of Solar and Battery Energy Storage project development and construction. Responsibilities will include:
- Partnering with Project Execution team to provide engineering expertise throughout project execution phase.
- Reviewing Interconnection Agreements, Interconnection Study documents, and other relevant information to make recommendations on equipment specifications.
- Coordinating with ISOs, utilities, and external contractors to identify and interpret engineering requirements.
- Identifying value engineering opportunities and make recommendations to internal and external stakeholders.
- Developing and maintaining internal processes to document engineering milestones and implementation plans for projects in execution phase.
- Reviewing internal and EPC designs for project substation and interconnection technical requirements.
- Monitoring project commissioning to ensure all engineering design requirements are implemented.
- Working with Development and Engineering teams to support internal handoff from Development to Project Execution teams.
- Identifying FERC, NERC, IEEE, and other regulatory requirements for individual projects.
- Acting as a technical resource for engineering topics throughout project execution phase.
- Attend in-person and remote meetings with interconnecting utilities.
- Support development of project technical scope and CCR engineering standards and technical specifications.
- Review owner-furnished equipment technical submittals to ensure compliance with project technical requirements and contractual obligations.
- Travel to project sites during critical activities or as requested by the project manager.
Skills and Qualifications
- BS degree in Electrical Engineering (EE) or other related engineering discipline from an accredited university. Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) preferred.
- At least 5 years of interconnection experience as a utility planner or engineer, consultant, EPC, or in project development.
- Prior experience working with multiple ISOs and utilities and knowing of project execution procedures.
- Familiarity with FERC, NERC, IEEE, and other industry standards.
- Strong organizational skills and high attention to detail.
- Ability to work both independently and as a part of team.
- Project management skills, including a strong aptitude for managing and prioritizing multiple projects and deadlines.
