The internal salary range is used for applicants who are current NJ state employees with underlying classified status for promotional calculations who meet the requirements below. 
The external salary range is used for candidates who are not NJ state employees who meet the requirements below.

Position Summary:

The HVAC Shop is responsible for the installation, construction, repair, rebuilding, and maintenance of HVAC mechanical fixtures, piping, and equipment, which involves the general and comprehensive responsibility for its efficient functioning; does related work as required.  

Under the direction of the Supervisor of HVAC, the Senior HVAC Technician performs varied types of mechanical work involving the installation, repair, adjustment and maintenance of heating, air conditioning, and refrigerant systems and related parts and equipment of said systems. The selected candidate should be Knowledgeable of the methods and problems involved in inspecting, repairing, installing and maintaining all types of HVAC equipment and/or systems, including those served by central chilled water and steam. 

Main Responsibilities:
  • Provides preventive maintenance to all HVAC related systems and equipment.
  • Inspects systems and equipment to determine what action is needed.
  • Replaces and lubricates parts, cleans and adjusts components as necessary, and reports all deficiencies to supervisor. 
  • Installs, repairs and/or maintains motors, feed and vacuum pumps, ductwork, grilles, conveyors and blowers, compressors, thermostats, pumps, filters, screens, condensers, and other heating, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment or systems.
  • Adjusts, repairs and installs pneumatic, electric and electronic control systems. 
  • Prepares and/or works from schematics, sketches, plans and specifications with accuracy in the field in accordance with the mechanical code or approved trade practices and established procedures. 
  • Overhauls pumps, compressors, and related equipment, installing new parts as needed; and, replaces bearings, shaft sleeves, gaskets and packing as necessary. 
  • Requisitions, stores, safeguards, and properly uses equipment, materials and supplies. 
  • Analyzes all mechanical systems through the energy management system computer, and makes adjustments and repairs to said mechanical systems and equipment as necessary. 
  • Required Qualifications:  

    Licenses: Possession of a valid driver's license in good standingand a valid Universal Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technician Certification, issued under the authority of the Federal Environmental Protection Agency, Section 608. 
    Experience: Three (3) years of experience in work involving the installation, inspection, repair, maintenance, and operation of heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems, machinery, diesel generators, and auxiliary equipment including welding, piping, and insulation.
