We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior GL Accountant in a growing organization.
Reporting directly to the CAO, the Senior GL Accountant is a key role within the finance department, responsible for managing and overseeing the general ledger accounting activities of the organization. This position involves ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records, assisting with month-end closing processes, and providing guidance to junior accounting staff.
Duties and responsibilities
1. General Ledger Management: Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and adherence to accounting standards. Perform analysis of GL accounts to identify and resolve discrepancies or variances.
2. Month-end Close: Assist in the month-end and year-end close processes, including preparing and reviewing journal entries, reconciling balance sheet accounts, and analyzing financial statements. Ensure deadlines are met and financial statements are prepared in accordance with accounting principles.
3. Financial Reporting: Assist in the preparation of financial statements and management reports, providing accurate and timely financial information to support decision-making. Collaborate with the finance team to analyze financial data and explain variances to budget and forecast.
4. Internal Controls: Ensure compliance with internal controls and accounting policies. Participate in the development and enhancement of internal control procedures, contributing to the maintenance of a strong control environment.
5. Process Improvement: Continuously review and assess GL accounting processes, identifying opportunities for process improvements, automation, and efficiency gains. Recommend and implement enhancements to streamline workflows and enhance accuracy.
6. Team Support: Provide guidance and support to junior accounting staff, including training, mentoring, and reviewing their work for accuracy and completeness. Foster a collaborative and supportive team environment.
7. Audit Support: Assist with internal and external audits, providing required documentation and explanations for GL accounts and transactions. Collaborate with auditors to address inquiries and ensure a smooth audit process.
8. Ad hoc Analysis: Conduct ad hoc financial analysis and reporting as required, supporting business initiatives and decision-making. Provide insights and recommendations for financial improvements and cost-saving opportunities.
Job qualifications and requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 4-6 years of progressive experience in general ledger accounting.
- Thorough understanding of accounting principles and practices.
- Strong knowledge of financial reporting standards (e.g., GAAP).
- Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.
- Detail-oriented with excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience with process improvement initiatives is desirable.
