Summary:
National Power is seeking a Senior Generator Field Technician. Reporting to the Director of Broadband Service and under the direction of the Vice President of Power Generation. The Senior Service Technician will utilize their experience to not only perform generator service and repair at a high level of excellence, but also serve as a technical resource and trainer for other technicians within their assigned service region.
We are looking for someone with expert-level knowledge of power generation equipment, including generators, switchgear, automatic transfer switches (ATS), and related systems, as well as the ability to take on a leadership role.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Core duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair commercial generator systems and integrated power systems up to 5MW, providing expert-level support on complex power generation, distribution, and control equipment as highest escalation point.
- Serve as top-level technical resource for other technicians and internal sales staff regarding power system parts, issues, configurations, etc.
- Perform advanced maintenance and repairs on generators, automatic transfer switches, switchgear, and interconnected electrical systems, with extensive experience in power control, protection relaying, and synchronization.
- Lead start-up testing, phasing, and commissioning for large-scale standby, parallel, or microgrid generator installations with multiple utility feeds.
- Supervise and direct teams of technicians to execute large-scale troubleshooting, installation, and preventative maintenance on sophisticated power infrastructure.
- Facilitate in-depth root cause analysis and repairs for highly complex electrical power systems across generation, transmission, and distribution.
- Deliver technical training, mentoring and performance feedback to junior/senior technicians on best practices for power systems.
- Develop and implement region-wide maintenance metrics, reliability practices, safety policies and quality targets for generator networks.
- Continuously participate in manufacturer certification courses and advocate for emerging power generation and switching technologies.
- Consistently solicit customer feedback and identify improvement opportunities that enhance service levels & recovery times.
- HS Diploma required; Associate degree in an electrical/mechanical related field preferred, or 15+ years’ experience in Power Generation in the private sector.
- Current Generac Power Systems certification preferred, but other manufacturer certifications will also qualify.
- The technician may be required to work in various weather conditions (heat, rain, snow, high humidity, etc.)
- Frequently work near moving mechanical parts.
- Lifting and carrying heavy objects, up to 75lbs, will be required.
- Ascending or descending ladders, scaffolding, stairs, ramps and the like using feet/legs and/or hands/arms.
- Seizing, holding, grasping, turning, or otherwise working with hand(s).
- Entering text or data into a computer or other machine by means of a keyboard.
- Pushing/pulling may involve use of hands/arms, feet/legs, and/or feet only done with one side of the body or both sides.
- Ability to sit for an extended time, up to 8 hours, and engage in frequent hand and finger dexterity (typing). Effective hearing and speaking skills, both over the phone and in person.

- Competitive pay depending on previous experience and current certifications. Overtime is also a factor and is paid at 1.5 X base. We are a performance-based company and pay will ultimately reflect the employee’s productivity and overall performance.
