Brulin has an exciting career opportunity for a Senior Formulation Chemist. This experienced professional will play a crucial role in propelling the organization forward through strategic product innovation, enhancement, and adherence to regulatory standards. This role is specifically geared towards developing and refining cleaning and coating solutions tailored for parts and facilities cleaning markets. The position includes managing the development of new products from conception to market introduction, improving existing products with innovative or alternative chemical solutions, and ensuring consistent product quality by assessing various raw material sources. Additionally, the Senior Formulation Chemist is tasked with upholding product excellence by developing efficient manufacturing protocols, quality controls, and precise product specifications. This position is also responsible for maintaining rigorous quality and safety standards in line with OSHA 1901.1450 regulations for laboratory safety and fostering a culture of innovation within the team. The Senior Formulation Chemist is a key driver of the organization’s growth, leveraging their expertise to set new benchmarks in product development and quality assurance.

Position Objectives & Primary Responsibilities

  • Utilize both new and existing products to develop solutions for various market applications.
  • Lead development and testing of innovative product systems.
  • Conduct competitive product evaluations and benchmarking of relevant products.
  • Translates project requirements into formulation requirements, measures, and targets.
  • Develops and validates new test methods and procedures. Establishes acceptance criteria and tests in different stages of product development.
  • Documents, analyzes, and reports project works, experimental observations, and test results.
  • Performs product tests in the lab, plant, or at customer sites.
  • Identifies and qualifies new or alternative raw material sources.
  • Establish manufacturing procedures, controls, and specifications.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves customer complaints and or manufacturing issues.
  • Develop materials and conducts training sessions for peers, sales, marketing and/or customers.
  • Serves as a backup to production quality controls.
  • Writes laboratory policies, procedures, and work instructions.
  • Remains current on raw material chemistries, technologies, and regulatory requirements.

Position-Specific Skills Required

  • Must be able to perform odor and visual color tests.
  • Effective writing skills with regards to project notebook and lab reports a must.
  • Able to operate cleaning equipment for product testing (e.g., floor stripper, automatic scrubber, etc.)
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Clearly expresses ideas, information, and concerns both verbally and in written format in both positive and negative situations.

Qualifications

  • Industry Experience: Candidates must possess at least 5 years of experience in product development within parts cleaning, industrial cleaning, or related markets.
  • Project Leadership: Proven expertise in spearheading formulation projects is required, encompassing the entire product development lifecycle from concept through to commercialization. A documented history of successful product development and market launches is essential.
  • Complex Formulation Development: Proficiency in developing sophisticated formulations tailored for specialized applications within related industries. Familiarity with the Parts Cleaning Industry is essential, including expertise in Immersion & Ultrasonic, Spray Wash & Rotary Basket, and Vapor Degreasing cleaning methods and products. Material Science Knowledge: Comprehensive knowledge of the interactions and functionalities of different formulation components

Education:

  • A bachelor’s degree in chemistry or a closely related field is mandatory for this role. Possession of advanced degrees, such as a Master’s, is particularly valued.
  • Beyond formal academic credentials, obtaining certification in industry-specific courses is highly beneficial.
