We are looking for a Senior Food Scientist (Plant Based Proteins), to join our R&D Team in Omaha, Nebraska!
As the Senior Food Scientist for Plant Based Proteins, reporting to the Senior Director of R&D, you will provide technical expertise and ingredient application on the Plant Protein Center of Excellence team, a strategic organization within R&D, focused on technology transformation of the Conagra portfolio. This position will organize and execute ingredient development and application in collaboration of early-stage suppliers to deliver on growth, cost, and compliance objectives of the company’s fiscal plans. In addition, the role will drive technical support activities with other collaborators to enable project progress toward decision making, influencing evolution of cross-functional communications, and leveraging project management software to enable most efficient visibility and resource management across R&D members focused on plant protein initiatives.
Position Responsibilities
Develop new products beginning at the concept phase through successful commercialization.
Design and conduct plant trials and new product start-ups
Plan, prioritize, and complete tasks effectively and efficiently.
Create product development schedules that are required to meet project timelines.
Maintain accurate and complete records
Work with pilot plant equipment
Learn and utilize on-line specification system.
Design and execute experiments and prepare results for review.
Conceptualize and develop new products prototypes.
Drive product cuttings, plant trials, and testing
Maintains a clean, organized, and safe work area, including the cleaning of equipment, utensils and work surfaces.
Manage or mentor other Food Scientists or technologists.
Position Requirements
BS in Food Science or related field.
5+ years of relevant work experience
Requires knowledge in food product design, formulation, ingredient functionality and interaction, process design, product scale-up, plant testing and commercialization.
Good understanding of food industry standards of quality and foods safety, and FDA regulations.
Experience with government regulatory requirements in the processing of food
Exhibit leadership and proactive attitudes in approaching technical solutions to business and market issues
Proven ability to independently handle multiple projects and tasks
Demonstrate ability to communicate well and to effectively influence others to accomplish research goals
Great negotiating skills when working through conflict resolution
Great presentation skills, both oral and written
Problem solving skills
Great relationship skills, both internally and externally, to achieve strong partnership and collaboration
Physical Requirements
Exposure to manufacturing environments for periodic extended workdays to include loud noise, excessive heat, cold, wet, and slippery conditions and exposure to all food allergens.
Travel can be up to 40% of the time based on projects but may be less.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs periodically.
Ability to stand for sit or stand for extended periods of time.
Use of pilot plant equipment and ability to move safely and freely around machinery in both manufacturing and pilot plant environments.
