Bachelor's degree preferred. Experience with Harvard Financial systems, including Oracle applications, PeopleSoft and B2P. Intermediate skills in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word. Ability to process financial transactions and reconcile accounts independently. Strong written and oral communication skills and attention to detail. Strong commitment to team and excellence in customer service. Ability to successfully manage and meet competing deadlines. Ability to handle complex and confidential information with discretion. Interest in Asia and Asian language fluency is a welcome addition.

Position Description
1. Independently process financial transactions, including vendor setups, reimbursement, corporate card / Pcard payments, cross-validation requests and check deposits.
2. Works with Finance and Executive Directors and employees to solve complex issues that arise with sending, receiving, spending, and tracking funds internationally.
3. Processes and monitors faculty grants awarded from Asia related centers to faculty at various Harvard schools. Communicates with other schools, uses the cross-validation process and sub activity requests, and completes the journal for the transfer of funds. Acts as main contact for balances, balance retrieval or related issues.
4. Processes student grants for the Asia Center using B2P and the internal student database.
5. Establishes and manages accounting record keeping systems, and procedures for tracking and reporting, including recommending remedial measures.
6. Will oversee the processing of all payments including vendors invoices, ICQs, individual reimbursements, honorariums and other accounts payable and receivables, Concur staff reimbursements/Corp card & Pcard payments and research discrepancies as required.
7. Reconcile transactions and independently monitor fund balances by running reports in HART, entering corrections via journal when necessary.
8. Manage and track any co-sponsoring support to other centers or departments including ADI journal entry and submission.
9. Works with sponsored accounts at the pre and post award stages, including providing assistance with grant proposal submissions, preparing budgets, tracking expenditures and preparing financial reporting in conjunction with FAS Research Administration, the Office of Sponsored Programs, and other Harvard offices.
10. Serves as one of the point persons regarding financial and travel policies for the Asia related centers and assist staff with submission of corporate card expenses and reimbursements ensuring policy adherence.
11. Attends meetings and trainings regarding financial policies and compliance and contributes to other Finance team goals as required. May be trained on the annual budget process for the Asia related centers.

Job Summary
Performs multiple diverse and complex accounting and financial management duties for the Asia Center and supports 4 other Asia related centers (Korea Institute, Harvard China Fund (both US and Shanghai offices), Fairbank Center for Chinese Studies, and Reischauer Institute of Japanese Studies). This position serves as the main front line financial contact for the Asia Center and new Southeast Asia Initiative and is the backup front line finance contact for the other Asia related centers. Typically works with multiple sources of funding which may include sponsored research, and federal restricted funds, grants and contracts. Ensures accuracy and compliance with internal and external regulations. Independently manages all financial transactions (Concur, Pos, PRs, NRs), vendor set ups, internal billings, student grants and journals.
Reporting to the Director of Finance and Administration, the incumbent is responsible for the administrative and financial processes, policies, and procedures of the Asia Center. As a member of a 5-person Finance team, the Financial Associate will play an integral part in supporting the day-to-day financial operations of the Asia related centers.

Work Format Details
This is a hybrid position that is based in Massachusetts. Additional details will be discussed during the interview process. All remote work must be performed within one of the Harvard Registered Payroll States, which currently includes Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Virginia, Washington, and California (CA for exempt positions only). Certain visa types and funding sources may limit work location. Individuals must meet work location sponsorship requirements prior to employment.
