The Senior Fellow, Tech Advocacy & LGBTQ+ Inclusion of the Human Rights Campaign Foundation is responsible for growing the organization's capacity, presence and leadership in advocating for LGBTQ+ people in the digital world. Reporting to the VP of Programs and Corporate Advocacy, this role will collaborate closely with colleagues in governmental affairs, legal, communications, research and development roles to develop organization-wide strategies with regard to Artificial Intelligence(AI)/Social Media/Technology. This role will oversee HRC's work to advance inclusive policies and regulation in technology, mitigate potential harms of technology for the LGBTQ+ community and leverage technology to positively shape public narrative, grow programming and advance the movement. This position is responsible for high-level strategy and vision as well as day-to-day management of partnerships and resources. The position includes outreach and substantial direct consultation with coalition partners and supporters.
This position isa year-long temporary, full-time position with benefits ending in December of 2024.Possible extension depending on funding.
Position Responsibilities:
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for the LGBTQ+ inclusion in technology -- with a keen understanding of how technology can be a force for good as well as the significant harms facing LGBTQ+ people in digital spaces, including AI and social media.
  • Create collaborative partnerships and alliances across sectors in civil rights and digital rights, and drive campaigns to leverage HRC's voice in these issues publicly -- with our 3+ million members and supporters and 10+ million digital audience.
  • In collaboration with governmental affairs and legal colleagues, represent HRC in coalition spaces, advancing the perspective of LGBTQ+ communities as inclusive tech policies and best practices are being advanced, engaging in policy advocacy and discussions around tech regulation.
  • Advise tech industry stakeholders and foster a productive dialogue on solutions to make technology just, safe and equitable.
  • Work interdepartmentally to develop research, and create resources in the areas of discrimination, bias and harm experienced by LGBTQ+ individuals in digital spaces to raise public awareness about technology's impact on the LGBTQ+ community.
  • Work with development colleagues to secure additional funding for this body of work. Manage grants, including tracking timeline, deliverables, data collection and communicating with funders.
  • Prepare and deliver written and oral presentations about LGBTQ+ people and the digital world, representing the program internally and externally, as needed.
  • Work with DEIB colleagues to understand and incorporate HRC's diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging philosophy, practice, and messaging into approach.
  • Carry out other duties as assigned.

Position Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience), with at least eight years of relevant work experience with technology related advocacy work or technology based policy work.
  • Demonstrable success managing strong coalition relationships while driving successful campaigns that create equitable solutions.
  • Strong understanding of the intersection of technology (from social media to AI), civil rights and democracy.
  • Ability to communicate in clear and compelling ways both written and verbally and ability to organize and share information effectively - whether writing an internal email or delivering a presentation.
  • Demonstrated success in partnering with colleagues across legal, policy and communications to drive organizational goals.
  • Understanding of the importance of intersectionality and a demonstrated commitment to diversity.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to handle multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Works well independently, as well as on a team.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of work time which may include evening, weekend and overnight travel.
  • Strong commitment to and interest in LGBTQ+ rights, racial and gender justice strongly preferred.
