Job Description
General Scope of Position:
Oversees the functions and operations of the extractions analysts. When required, performs all operations within the extractions department and provides general support to department analysts. Trains new employees assuring compliance with all lab rules, regulations, standard work, standard operating procedures and associated guidelines.
Shift: 8am - 5pm
Salary: $22.00 - $23.00
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Acts as primary responsible person in the area, overseeing the process flow and assuring all daily work is completed in a timely manner while keeping to the highest level of quality. Oversees all chain of custody (CoC) processes, and validates compliance.
- Performs audits of processes, work production, employee knowledge and competency and documents results.
- Schedules staff to assure optimum production and work coverage.
- Works with other Team Leads to design and complete ongoing employee training sessions including cross-training of skills.
- Develops and implements approved work processes including SOPs, standard work, TWI and other methodologies.
- Performs as the department’s change agent, implementing improvements and streamlined processes.
- Performs routine operations including start of day equipment initiation including verification of calibrations, controls, all reagents and reagent levels, initial review of aliquoted samples from specimen handling and loading batches.
- Determines batch success or failure based feedback from other departments. Documents discrepancies, exceptions and unusual trends. Researches and rectifies errors.
- Adds various reagents to aliquoted samples according to initial sample test results. Completes various extractions using appropriate techniques (hydrolysis, heat, chemical, etc.).
- Performs confirmation testing using ELISA as required.
- Assists analysts with exception items, answers questions and generally assists less experienced employees.
- Performs routine machine maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Follows all laboratory policies and procedures; adheres to all health and safety standards.
- Participates with company strategies including 5s, Lean and the elimination of waste.
- Incumbent may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth above to address business needs and changing business practices.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Knowledge of: Lab operations within the Screening or Extractions area; must be competent in all assigned functions to independently perform the duties and responsibilities of the area.
- Ability to: Quickly and accurately handle incoming test flow processes and. Data entry skills via a keyboard (alpha and numeric) required. Strong eye-hand coordination. Able to handle a high volume environment while maintaining the highest level of quality. Ability to assist lesser experienced staff with exceptions. Ability to implement change in a positive manner.
