Davey Resource Group Inc. (DRG), has opportunities for an experienced Environmental Restoration Specialist. DRG is a leader in the natural resource and forestry consulting industries. DRG provides a full array of horticultural, ecological stewardship, lakeshore, ravine, streambank, bluff restoration as well as traditional landscape maintenance to clients in the private and public sectors throughout the Midwest.

Job Duties

Position Description and Responsibilities Duties: The Senior Environmental Specialist will provide our government, utility, commercial, private and not-for-profit clients with the services and solutions needed to efficiently and effectively manage natural resources and comply with policies. Understand the contract needs and specifications of clients and their customers and develop appropriate solutions. Inspect a wide range of habitats, both natural and disturbed, and assess their condition, health and functionality according to client specifications. Identify local species, understand their typical characteristics and recognize common diseases and pests. Extensive contact and communication with clients to report on the status of projects identify problems and develop solutions. Individuals will represent the company and the client at professional meetings and will communicate ideas, technical information and industry intelligence as appropriate. Supervise, train and lead teammates in a variety of work, including invasive plant species control, native plant and seed installation, streambank, lake shore, ravine, and bluff stabilization and restoration, prescribed burning, traditional landscape management, installations and other types of habitat restoration, in coordination with the Project Management Team. Majority of work is outdoors, often in inclement weather and in rugged terrain, and may involve using heavy equipment, such as spray rigs, backpack sprayers, augers, chain saws, mowers, etc...

Desired Qualifications
  • 3-5 years experience in Natural resource consulting and/or restoration experience required 
  • Driver’s license and clean driving record are required, ability to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) will be required 
  • Prescribed Burn Management certifications and experience
    • Certified Prescribed Burn Manager Certification is preferred
  •  Illinois Department of Agriculture Certified Pesticide Applicators License or ability to gain certification required
  • Ability and willingness to travel
  • Two-to-four-year degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Botany, Ecology, Forestry, Horticulture, Hydrology, Soil Science, or related discipline or equivalent experience in similar position is preferred.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office programs and Google. 
  • ISA certification preferred
