The Team and Job Summary


The Senior Environmental Scientist’s responsibilities will include planning, directing, and coordinating environmental projects to ensure that the goals and objectives of the project and client are accomplished within prescribed timeframes, regulatory requirements and funding parameters. These projects will include high complexity, multi-media, multi-contaminant remediations. The Senior Environmental Scientist will also be responsible for the training of junior technical staff. The customer experience is paramount, and the Senior Environmental Scientist will be responsible for responding to client inquiries in a timely and effective manner as well as for developing business with existing client base, referral agents and centers of influence.


Job Responsibilities

  • The Senior Environmental Scientist will work predominantly in an office setting performing project administration, budgeting and reporting activities. Field oversight of phases of more complex investigation and remediation activities is expected.
  • Will work collaboratively with a Project Manager and Senior Project Manager during the design and implementation of remedial projects.
  • Possesses strong technical capabilities and may demonstrate a unique technical proficiency.
  • Authors and reviews NJDEP technical reports including NJDEP PAR, SIR, RIR, RAW, RAR and soil and groundwater permit applications.
  • Trains staff
  • Will develop and maintain client relationships with the goal of being a trusted advisor

Required Qualifications

  • 4-year college degree in geology, biology, environmental science or similar science degree and 6-8 years of environmental consulting experience in NJ; a master’s degree in one of the above listed fields is a plus
  • Well versed in NJDEP’s Technical Guidance Documents and Technical Requirements for Site Remediation
  • Experienced with due diligence requirements and commercial and industrial property transactional requirements
  • Self-starter with strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Word and Excel
  • Flexible to work outside of normal business hours as required
  • Professional licenses are desirable (e.g. Licensed Site Remediation Professional, Professional Engineer, Professional Geologist)
  • 40-hr OSHA training
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record

Required Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.


Education and /or Experience: B.A. or B.S. in a related science field such as Biology, Chemistry, Geology, Environmental Science or Engineering. A master’s degree is also encouraged.


Professional Skills: Ability to independently read, research, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations and form technical opinions. Ability to clearly and effectively write reports and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present and communicate information and respond to questions from clients and stakeholders.


Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.


Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations.


Computer Skills: Competent skill level in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) and CRM software.


Applicable Certificates, Licenses, Requirements: NJ Subsurface Evaluator and UST Closure License; Licensed Site Remediation Professional, 40 hours of OSHA training with 8 hours annual updates; OSHA Supervisor Training.

A reasonable estimate of the salary range for this role is $50k - $90k. Any offered salary range is based on a wide array of factors including but not limited to skillset, experience, training, location, scope of role, management responsibility, etc.
