Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED (associate's degree in a related field preferred); three years of experience in construction inspections; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Ability to read construction plans; to enter and maintain accurate and complete field activity records in an automated project tracking system; good oral and written communication skills; knowledge of local and state road-construction standards; ability to ensure administrative requirements are followed for multiple construction projects. Must possess, or be able to obtain, certification as a Virginia Certified Project Inspector for Erosion and Sediment Control and certification as a Virginia Certified Project Inspector for Storm Water Management. Current valid driver's license and good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, record must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Out of state driving records must be obtained by applicant and presented at time of interview. Record must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview date. Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required.
Duties
Provides field inspections of residential and commercial construction projects to ensure compliance with the county's Erosion and Sediment Control, Floodplain, and Chesapeake Bay Preservation Ordinances; responds to citizen inquiries and concerns; performs inspections related to building permit applications, certificates of occupancy, and state acceptance; ensures that all records related to permitting and inspections are up-to-date and accurate; ensures adherence to appropriate administrative procedures for construction activities/projects. Perform other work as required.
This position is a part of an approved Career Development Plan (CDP) and offers career progression opportunities and salary incentives, as funding permits, based on performance, qualifications, and experience.
