The PWC Department of Fire & Rescue Fire Marshal's Office is looking for top quality candidates who would be responsible for fire prevention in new and existing construction.
We are seeking a Construction Inspector Supervisor to lead a team of high performing inspectors that cover fire protection systems, controls, and devices for compliance with approved plans and the state building and fire codes. You will also be a part of the Leadership and Management team for the FMO under Community Safety.
About This Role:
The candidate will be responsible for leading the inspections team and conducting inspections for fire protection systems in accordance with approved plans and the state building and fire codes. You will also be responsible for investigating unlicensed construction, complaints, fire damage, hazardous conditions, structural or operational failures and improper uses of buildings or structures. In addition, you will be approving final inspection certificates and recommending issuance of violation notices and stop work orders to the Fire Marshal and/or Building Official in cases of non-compliance of construction or maintenance regulations. Assists Construction Branch Chief or other officials designated by the Building Official, as instructed, by performing inspections on specified phases of complicated construction projects.
Minimum Requirements:
High school diploma or G.E.D. and 5 years of related experience.
Preferences:
  • Any combination of education and experience equivalent to an Associate's Degree in a related field;
  • 5+ years of job-related building fire protection systems and fire codes experience
  • 1-2 years supervisory experience
  • Inspector 1 & 2 certification (NFPA 1031), Fire Prevention Inspector (DHCD), and Fire Protection Systems ICC 3B certification.
Special Requirements:
  • Must possess a valid Driver's License
  • Must comply with the regulations under Title 27 of the Virginia Code and will be sworn in by the Clerk of the Court
Background checks, which may include but are not limited to: Criminal History Check, Credit History Check, Education Verification Check, License Verification Check, and/or fingerprinting may be required as posted in the job advertisement.
Fire & Rescue Requirement: Effective October 2012, mandated by the Virginia State Board of Health 12VAC5-31-540, VA EMS Regulations require a criminal background check conducted by the Central Crime Records Exchange and the National Crime Information Center via Virginia State Police; and a driving record transcript from the individual's state Department of Motor Vehicles.
Work Schedule:
This is a 37.5 hours per week, full-time exempt position with working hours Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:30pm.
Starting Salary Range: $69,186.00 - $95,579.50 Annually
