JOB POSITION: Senior Engineer
LOCATION: 7000 Target Parkway North, Brooklyn Park, MN 55445
DUTIES: Develop and gain insight in the application architecture and distill an abstract architecture into concrete design to influence the implementation; extract data from various sources; develop applications to ingest data from external APIs; apply appropriate software engineering patterns to build robust and scalable systems; working on Hive optimization techniques to improve performance; collaborate with team members by proposing software designs and providing feedback on software designs and implementation; use problem solving skills to triage operational issues and eliminate repeat occurrences; initiate and execute research and proof-of-concept activities for new technologies; lead functional design and architecture discussions with understanding of process flows and system diagrams to enable design decisions; lead and conduct code review, design review, testing, and debugging activities at the application level; embed data quality protocols throughout data acquisition, processing, storage, and operational use; lead design, lifecycle management, and total cost of ownership of services; and deliver high-performance, scalable, repeatable, and secure deliverables with broad impact (high throughput and low latency). Tools/technologies used: MapReduce, HDFS, Hive, Apache Spark, Apache Sqoop, Zookeeper, Oozie, Kafka, Drone, Docker, Scala, and Python. May telecommute from any location in the U.S.
REQUIREMENTS: This position requires a Master's degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering and least two (2) years of experience in software engineering/data extraction (any title) using HDFS, MapReduce, Hive, Spark/Spark-SQL, Oozie, and Sqoop, and including at least one (1) year of experience building ETL data pipelines, developing code, creating Hive tables, developing workflows to automate ETL pipeline using Oozie, and using Zookeeper, Kafka, Python, Drone, and Docker. May telecommute from any location in the U.S.
