The Department of Water Resources’ Special Investigations Branch is seeking a qualified and highly motivated candidate who can successfully lead the team that is responsible for monitoring the State’s WATER RESOURCES.

Under the Direction of the Supervising Engineer, the incumbent plans, assigns, leads, and reviews the work of a team of Water Resources Technical staff engaged in the collection of surface and groundwater data.

This position will be headquartered at the South Central Region Office in Fresno with opportunities for teleworking. We encourage Senior Engineers interested in this unique opportunity to lead a team that performs challenging and rewarding work to apply for this position.

Department of Water Resources (DWR) was established in 1956 by the California State Legislature. We manage California’s WATER RESOURCES, systems, and infrastructure, including the State Water Project, in a responsible sustainable way.

At DWR, we are embedding climate change response into every project we undertake. We have set standards to help evaluate how each project incorporates climate resilience principles and ensure consistency across the Department. Special Requirements

Candidates must possess a valid license as a Professional Engineer in the field of Civil Engineering issued by the State of California. Candidate must have very good knowledge of hydrology and the ability to travel and do fieldwork.

We are seeking a strong leader with the ability to effectively manage and utilize employee skills and maintain a good working environment for all the Section staff. The ideal candidate will have experience installing and maintaining data collection equipment and stations and performing engineering evaluations, have effective oral and written communication skills, broad computer and data management skills, project management skills, and experience working in multi-agency environments.
