Responsibilities:
- Explains benefit options to employees, retirees, and beneficiaries and assists employees in benefits and attaining optimal coverage. Conducts individual and group benefit orientation sessions for new hires. Processes new employee benefit enrollments, provides benefits information, and ensures employees have completed required paperwork.
- Coordinates and conducts annual enrollment meetings/presentations and assists employees with questions and/or issues. Reviews annual enrollment forms for appropriateness and resolves discrepancies. Enters benefit changes due to family status changes and annual enrollments. Assists in the development and distribution of benefits communications, annual enrollment communications, web-based benefit information, special programs, and benefit counseling materials.
- Counsels employees on retirement benefits, reviews completed forms for accuracy, prepares retirement estimates, and processes retiree benefit forms. Processes death claims and assists beneficiaries with paperwork.
- Researches and corrects errors with coverage and/or premiums paid to carriers. Mediates between benefit providers and employees in handling issues/questions and provides suggestions. Coordinates with insurance carrier personnel and System Benefits Administration, when necessary, to resolve claim disputes.
- Monitors workers compensation, leave, benefits, and employee insurance termination/continuation of benefits. Oversees enrollment and billing of graduate student insurance programs. Ensures compliance with System benefit procedures, the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA), the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Texas Department of Insurance guidelines, and other applicable State and Federal rules, policies, and regulations.
- Develops, promotes and oversees healthy lifestyle programs and maintains wellness web pages. Plans, organize and conduct benefit, retirement, and wellness fairs or other meetings.

- Bachelor’s degree.
- Two years of related experience.
- Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
- Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.
- Must be able to lift and carry up objects up to 20 lbs to set up to set up and carry materials wellness programs and events.
- Position is required to handle Personal Health Information (PHI) in accordance with system policy and complete the HIPAA training as a condition of employment, within a reasonable timeframe after employment and on an as-needed basis thereafter.
- Five or more of human resources experience in benefits and leave administration.
- Working knowledge in applicable benefits administration laws such as FMLA, USERRA, ERISA, COBRA, ACA, etc.
- Excellent customer service skills to provide customer consultations as needed.
- PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP or SHRM – SCP.
- Knowledge of HRIS.
- Excellent presentation skills.
