Role:
Northwood Space is looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our team in our El Segundo office. This position will be have end-to-end ownership over the specification, architecture, simulation, schematic capture, PCB design, and board validation of our high speed PCBs. They will support development of our next-generation gateway product.
Responsibilities:
Drive PCB design for high speed digital and RF communication systems using the latest-generation FPGAs.
Work with system architects, RF engineers, antenna engineers, DSP/FPGA engineers to optimize system performance and overall design.
Perform schematic capture, PCB layout, board bring-up, and validation.
Work with suppliers to ensure components are optimized for performance and cost.
Work with fab houses to ensure design feasibility and manufacturability.
Collaborate closely with a cross-functional team to ensure smooth integration of the overall system.
Assess system performance and environmental effects in-the-field and incorporate analysis into system improvements.
Requirements:
6+ years of professional experience in PCB design
Proficient in high-density/high-speed design (e.g. DDR memory and high-speed interfaces like JESD)
Experience with fine pitch BGA routing, including blind and buried vias
Experience with low noise design and minimization of EMI/EMC
Experience with RF and mixed-signal design
Experience with integration of sensor systems (thermal, voltage, etc.)
Experience with Altium Designer
Soldering and PCB rework skills
Experience designing, testing, and troubleshooting complex board designs and systems in a hardware R&D lab environment
Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively with others
Strong work ethic and drive to succeed
Ability to work in a fast paced and demanding start-up atmosphere
Willing to work extended hours and weekends as needed
In-person in El Segundo
Nice to haves
Basic knowledge of RF and Firmware
Experience designing high reliability systems is a bonus
Experience in C or Python or software in general is a plus

Compensation is determined by role, level, location. and alignment with market data. Individual level and base pay is determined on a base-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related skills, education, experience, and technical capabilities.
