Job description

Amogy is a well-funded technology startup on a mission to decarbonize multiple modes of transportation using ammonia as a renewable fuel. Renewable fuel for zero emission mobility is the key to a sustainable future!
What You Will Be Doing:
We are looking for an Electrical Controls Engineer to develop and implement instrumentation and control solutions for chemical process equipment. In this role, you will work closely with cross-functional engineering teams to test and troubleshoot novel reactor and separation technologies for Amogy's next-generation power solutions.
Responsibilities

  • Create electrical designs and select controller hardware in accordance with P&IDs
  • Program PLCs or embedded systems to acquire sensor data (temperatures, pressures, liquid levels, flow rates, and gas concentrations, etc.) and control actuators (valves, blowers, pumps, and heaters, etc.)
  • Write high-level state logic to automate lab experiments
  • Implement and tune algorithms for low-level process control
  • Develop user interfaces for controlling lab experiments, visualizing sensor data and logging test data
  • Support basic electrical assembly (soldering, crimping, etc.) as needed

Requirements
The minimum requirements we seek:
  • BS in Electrical and Computer Engineering or related degree with 8+ years of professional experience in developing electrical and control systems. Advanced degrees may be counted as experience.
  • Prior experience in developing process control and data acquisition systems in a lab or industrial setting using off-the-shelf controllers (PC-based controllers, PLCs, etc.)
  • Prior experience in developing electrical wiring diagram for sensors (pressure transducers, RTD sensors, flow meters, liquid level switches, etc.), and actuators (air compressor, solenoid valves, proportional valves, mass flow controller, etc.).
  • Prior experience in configuring and testing motors, air compressors, pumps, heaters, solenoid valves, proportional valves, mass flow controller, gas analyzers, etc.
  • Working experience in developing and simulating closed-loop control system using feedforward & feedback controls and state machine using either Simulink for model-based control design or LabVIEW
  • Prior experience in human machine interface (HMI) development
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with excellent written and verbal communication skills

Our preferred qualifications:
  • Prior experience in developing electrical and control systems for petrochemical or pharmaceutical processes
  • Prior experience in configurating and programming controllers (Beckhoff PC-based controller, Bachmann M1 controller, Engine ECUs, etc.), the associated IO modules and communication protocols (CAN2.0b, J1939, CANopen, etc.)
  • Prior experience in building and testing CANBUS based control system using Engine ECUs, CANBUS based IO Modules, and CAN Analyzer.
  • Proficiency in developing and simulating nonlinear and coupled control systems for chemical process using MATLAB, Simulink, Stateflow, and automatic codes generation using MATLAB Coder, Simulink Coder, and Embedded Coder.
  • Experience in commissioning high-voltage DC electrical equipment

The salary pay range for this position is $135,000 to $150,000. The salary pay range is applicable to positions physically based in New York City. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, job experience and physical location.
By joining our team, you will be creating the first page of the ammonia-driven green mobility, and its economy. If this sounds like a role that will excite you, and you see yourself in a fast-paced, high-growth environment where you are learning and collaborating cross-functionally, we want to talk to you!
