About the Position:

The Senior Director of School Operations is responsible for ensuring highly effective School Operations across all Brooklyn Prospect Charter schools by providing leadership and coaching to a team of Directors of School Operations, developing and managing a suite of support tools, and providing training, support, and accountability for School Operations leaders and staff.

The ideal candidate possesses a deep interest in education, is knowledgeable about charter schools, and has professional experience in school-based operations leadership, project management, people management, and other related functions. They are fully dedicated to the mission of Prospect Schools and committed to keeping the academic and personal success of our students as a core focus while striving to grow professionally and support the operational excellence of our network of Schools. Our Senior Director of School Operations will report to Yoni Samuel-Siegel, Chief Operating Officer (COO).

Job Responsibilities:

Talent Management and Development

  • Provide effective management, coaching and leadership support for Directors of School Operations (DSO), including managing goal setting, monitoring, and performance evaluation.

  • Plan and implement an effective management structure, including regular 1:1 check-ins, collaborative School Operations walkthroughs, project management reviews, and other management tools.

  • Provide leadership coaching and people management support to DSOs to enable them to effectively develop talent on their teams.

  • Develop, initiate, and lead an ongoing program of professional development, training, and support for School Operations leaders and teams, including:

    • Summer Operations Institute for DSOs and operations team members to focus on key leadership and tactical proficiencies to support operational excellence at our schools

    • Monthly DSO meetings to build a leadership cohort, provide professional development opportunities, and share best practices across schools.

    • Ongoing suite of development resources for School Operations team members to build professional capacity

  • Develop and implement a practice among our School Operations teams that promotes growth and development of our team members and provides opportunities for them to grow within their roles, while opening pathways for upward mobility within our organization.

  • Promote cohesion and connectedness among our Director of School Operations cohort. Among other activities, this may include facilitating practical, collaborative professional experiences such as problem solving exercises, School Operations walkthroughs, etc.

Systems Development & Implementation

  • Under the direction of our COO, set the bar of excellence for School Operations by developing and managing a shared vision of operational excellence across Prospect Schools.

  • Develop and implement a suite of tools and resources to be used to operationalize that vision. Examples of tools would include codifying comprehensive daily school systems, rubrics for assessing the overall health of School Operations as well as the effectiveness of individual systems, project plan templates for important, recurring school events, and other tools and resources of the like.

  • Lead rollout, training, and ongoing support to ensure adoption and implementation of the suite of tools.

  • Develop an approach and resources to enable the ongoing assessment and improvement of School Operations. Examples include:

    • School operations rubrics and walkthrough checklists

    • School operations data dashboard

    • Start of School year launch readiness project plan and walkthrough rubric

    • School review cycles focused on School Operations

  • Build strong professional relationships to collaborate across network functional teams, ensuring effective and streamlined services that support our schools, including:

    • Meet regularly with school principals and network instructional leaders to understand the instructional needs of each school and the unique needs of each grade span; coordinate with DSOs to ensure instructional program operational needs are met.

    • Work closely with the Director of Network Operations to ensure centralized network support services continue to adapt to the operational needs of Schools.

    • Collaborate with network leaders of other functional areas such as HR and Finance to ensure we meet the operational needs of Schools.

About You:

  • Bachelor’s degree required with Master’s degree preferred

  • 5-7 years of experience in School Operations, with at least 3-5 years people leadership and management

  • Deeply strategic thinker and skilled project manager with a record of setting and achieving ambitious goals

  • Significant experience with data and analytics, with an ability to work through large sets of information to derive and communicate meaningful insights

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to assess, motivate, and drive performance through individuals’ strengths with an emphasis on inclusivity

  • Successful experience working with a range of stakeholders and across multiple lines of difference

  • Highly collaborative with the ability to balance goals with diplomacy and relationship-maintenance

  • Experienced systems-thinker who can mediate our need to scale our operations effectively while also preserving the agency we believe is necessary for schools and teams to thrive

Salary:
Employees at Prospect Schools are provided with a competitive salary. Our salaries are set through a
lens of equity, and based on an individual’s skills, education, and years of experience relevant to the role.
The salary range for this role is from $120,000-$160,000.
