Job Description Summary
Reporting to the Executive Director of College Houses and Academic Services (CHAS), the Senior Director for Academic and Residential Programs oversees academic-related CHAS programs and centralized systems. As a member of the CHAS leadership team, the Senior Director has the opportunity to play a defining role in the experience of 6000 Penn undergraduate students living in the 13 College Houses. The Senior Director will provide direction and develop innovative approaches to benefit all students, across all developmental levels, within Penn's Living Learning communities of CHAS. The Senior Director will lead efforts in collaboration with partners at the University of Pennsylvania to ensure, assess, and refine our practices to provide vibrant student living-learning communities and other co-curricular programs throughout and across the college houses.
Job Description
Job Responsibilities
  • Supervise the Director for Training and Assessment, and the Marketing Coordinator.
  • Oversee training of the 200+ student staff, including, but not limited to, Fall Training in August and Winter Training in January.
  • Oversee academic programs and initiatives, including, but not limited to, program communities, the research fellow program, tutoring, and academic advising.
  • Coordinate the daily operation of the incident report system, train staff on operation & policies regarding reporting system. Serve as the liaison with various university partners.
  • Develop, implement, and assess the College House communication and marketing plan. Working with the Marketing Coordinator and Executive Director, coordinate all communication efforts.
  • Oversee budgets related to training and academic related trainings.
  • Assist the Senior Director of Housing Operations in supporting the College Houses, including stepping in to support a College House if there is a house director vacancy.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Master's in student affairs administration, higher education, or a related field and 5 to 7 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required; a doctorate in student affairs administration, higher education, or a related field is preferred.
  • A track record of experience in progressively responsible leadership positions in residential life/housing administration is required with a minimum of 10 years of related experience preferred.
  • Extensive management experience inclusive of professional staff supervision, long-term planning, collaboration within and across units, and human resources administration; experience with implementation and assessment for student populations across the college cycle, including first year and upper-class populations; demonstrated understanding and knowledge of how academic life can be integrated into the residential experience of students.
  • Demonstrated leadership, collaboration, problem-solving, crisis management, team-building, and excellent communication skills; familiarity with student conduct proceedings, Title IX, and other higher education compliance/legal issues; an ability to build positive and effective relationships with staff, faculty, colleagues, students, and other internal and external partners across diverse populations is also required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with a diverse group of students, staff, faculty, and campus partners in University Life and Residential Services; an understanding of the importance of a diverse, multicultural community to student learning; and superb communication skills necessary.
  • Knowledge of best practices related to living and learning programs and services designed to promote student success; familiarity with assessment activities and data-driven decision-making; and an ability to enthusiastically support the University of Pennsylvania's commitment to enhance campus culture and the student experience will also be an important consideration.
