Roof Above is NC’s most comprehensive homeless service provider. Our mission is to unite our community to end homelessness, one life at a time. Focusing on individuals experiencing homelessness, Roof Above offers everything from street outreach to shelter to Rapid Rehousing to Permanent Supportive Housing. Roof Above’s services and programs reach over 1,300 individuals every day across nine campuses in Charlotte. Roof Above was born through the merger of Urban Ministry Center and Men’s Shelter of Charlotte in 2019.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Development Officer is a senior member of the Roof Above Philanthropy Team and is primarily responsible for leading and managing a growing annual giving programs with a strong emphasis on developing relationships with individuals, corporations, congregations, and foundations. The Senior Development Officer is responsible for playing a key role in Roof Above’s signature annual fundraising event, True Blessings. The Senior Development Officer is instrumental in cultivating donors and stewardship activities, such as Lunch and Learns, visits to our campuses, and volunteer engagement. Conscious collaboration is a cornerstone and an expectation of members of the Roof Above Philanthropy Team.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Direct and manage a comprehensive and strategic annual giving campaign that optimizes both traditional and progressive fundraising strategies
• Create a strong stewardship program for individuals (donor journeys), congregations, and corporations

• Work closely with Philanthropy Leadership team to develop data-driven strategies to guide annual fund cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activities that work to support a pipeline of major gift prospects for next level of giving
• Provide management and leadership in the operations of annual giving luncheon, True Blessing

• Build and carry a portfolio of 50-75 donors
• Create and execute donor engagement events

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Support other areas of Philanthropy Team as needed
• Participation in Philanthropy Prospecting meetings and Philanthropy Team Leadership Meetings
• Work collaboratively with other teams across the organization
• Perform other duties as assigned

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED

• Bachelor’s degree required with 4-6 years of relevant development experience
• Experience and strong comfort level with direct donor communication including phone calls and in-person meetings
• Experience with creating and operationalizing a process for moving donors through the stages of engagement within an organization
• Experience with executing special events
• Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure
• Ability to develop and implement process
• Ability to provide excellent customer service by positively interacting with donors, those we serve, volunteers and staff
• Flexibility is a must, with a willingness to adapt and respond quickly
• Must enjoy collaboration on ideas and projects and enjoy working in an environment where high value is placed on teamwork

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

• The Philanthropy Team’s offices are located at Roof Above’s Day Services Center.
• Position requires being on campus most days.
• Evening and weekend work as needed.
• Must be comfortable in a low-barrier environment with diverse individuals, including persons with mental illness and substance use issues.
