Job Summary

 

The Senior Development Engineer will be engaged with several processes and products within Pregis. The focus will be on our converted products and will include paper, coatings, converting, blown and cast extrusion working across multiple business units. This is a diverse role requiring ability to adapt and learn the various technologies within Pregis that are unique to provide packaging solutions to our customers. Not only understanding the converting technology but in this role you would need to understand the fitness-for use of the products in application to continue to advance, develop, enhance and test these solutions to realize improved products for our markets. 

 

Job Location

 

This role can be based in Aurora, IL or Sussex, WI. 

 

Required Education, Experience and Qualifications

 

Education

  • Required: Bachelor of Science Mechanical Engineering
  • A minimum of 8-10 years' experience working in plastic, paper, other web handling.
  • Preferred: plastic processing such as blown film and cast film, monolayer and multilayer as well as downstream converting technologies focused on polyolefin-based plastic films.

 

Skills

  • Lead converting equipment development, modification, installation, and start-up.
  • Lead new product development trials and experiments on the manufacturing floor.  
  • Responsible for creating and communicating documentation for manufacturing trials.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret the trial results, material and equipment, and develop next steps plan
  • Provide leadership on the manufacturing floor during trials working side-by-side operations.
  • Responsible for new product (converted film) ramp up through to commercialization. 
  • Must be able to successfully interact and communicate within our business units, outside contractors or suppliers.
  • Responsible for maintaining technical specifications of products.
  • Ability to manage small team of Engineers/Technicians.
  • Self-Directed - able to manage multiple projects without significant oversight
  • Coachable and open to feedback.
  • A strong verbal and written communication skills as well as robust project management skills are a must along with good interpersonal skills.
  • Comfortable in a dynamic work environment where projects can shift mid-year

 

Essential Functions

  • Travel 25% - Traveling to key plants for equipment modification, trials, qualifications, (Sussex, WI, Garland, TX, Plymouth, IN); Could be 50% during Project installation and commissioning 
  • Able to stand for long periods of time; as much as up to 12 hours.
  • Interact with vendors & Pregis procurement to qualify new raw materials/films through productivity or growth programs
