About the Role
As a Senior Textile Designer at West Elm Kids, you will play a pivotal role in shaping our product line by creating compelling designs for the Kids textiles category. This is a unique opportunity to provide an innovative point of view on textiles for the West Elm Kids brand.
Working under the leadership of the Vice President and Director, your primary responsibility will be to lead the design process from ideation to execution, ensuring that our products align with our brand vision, market trends, and customer needs.
This role will also be responsible for the management of 1-2 direct reports.
Responsibilities
- Conceptualize and develop original designs for textiles that reflects the West Elm Kids design philosophy and aesthetic
- Work with a team of designers, providing mentorship, guidance, and support throughout the design process
- Oversee the entire product development lifecycle, from concept to production, ensuring adherence to quality standards and timelines
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including product development, sourcing, and merchandising to ensure design feasibility and market viability
- Conduct trend research, market analysis, and competitive benchmarking to drive innovation and maintain a competitive edge
- Pull tears and work with senior team members to refine design briefs and presentations
- Create and oversee the creation of detailed sketches, and renderings to effectively communicate design concepts.
- Develop and manage presentations to present design content and samples to senior leadership
- Manage day to day communication and coordination with outside freelancers for print & pattern endeavors
- Travel as needed for sourcing materials, visiting manufacturers, and attending trade shows to stay informed about industry developments and foster supplier relationships.
- Passionate about design, style, and decorating for kids
- Love to work collaboratively in a group and have an innate willingness to dig in and contribute with your team
- Think innovation is critical in a business environment and support others in creative thinking
Criteria
- Must provide Portfolio link (including password) on resume - or link to PDF work samples with application
- Degree in Textile Design, or equivalent experience
- Minimum 6-8 years of professional design work experience preferably in home textiles, or kids bedding / textiles
- Experience developing product directly with factories; thorough understanding of product development from concept through commercialization
- Deep knowledge of textiles, fabrications, printing and manufacturing techniques
- Highly developed taste level and sense of color
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication skills
- Experience managing at least one direct report
- Ability to prioritize, multi-task and adapt to change
- Extremely organized and detail-oriented – excellent calendar adherence and ownership
- Must be expert level in Adobe Creative Suite
- Understanding and enthusiasm for the West Elm Kids brand

The expected starting pay range for this position is $80,000 - $100,000. Applicable pay ranges may differ across markets. Actual pay will be determined based on experience and other job-related factors permitted by law. In addition to competitive pay, compensation may include a variety of other components like benefits, paid time off, merit, and bonus opportunities.
