Senior Database Manager

Position Summary
The Senior Database Manager is a full-time position that reports to the Chief Technology Officer. This person will be an experienced database professional who plays an essential role in the Carroll School Technology Office and contributes as a member of a dedicated team. This position plays a vital role in ensuring the efficient, secure, and reliable operation of our school databases which support various functions including enrollment, student health and academic information, and learning management. The work in this role will directly contribute to improving student experiences, streamlining administrative processes, and safeguarding sensitive data.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, implement, and maintain database solutions to meet the evolving needs of the school.
- Work collaboratively with various departments (e.g Admissions, Academic Leadership, Finance, Targeted Cognitive Intervention) to develop, implement, and maintain automated data feeds between school database systems, including Aspen, Ravenna, Magnus, School Messenger, and others.
- Create customized queries, reports, and functionality for end users in Aspen and other systems.
- Perform ongoing database administration tasks including backups, recovery, performance optimization, and security management.
- Collaborate with the Chief Technology Officer, educators, and administrators to understand data requirements and translate them into effective database solutions.
- Develop and implement data governance policies and procedures to ensure data integrity and compliance with regulations.
- Monitor database performance and troubleshoot any issues that may arise.
- Stay up-to-date on the latest database technologies and trends.
- Provide technical support and guidance to staff regarding database access and usage.
- Provides training and instruction for all faculty and staff.
- Document database processes and procedures for future reference.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
- 5+ years of experience as a Database Administrator in a K-12 educational or enterprise environment
- Proven experience with various relational database management systems (e.g., SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL); Experience with Aspen is a plus
- Strong understanding of database design principles, data warehousing and analytics tools, and query optimization
- Experience with data security best practices and disaster recovery procedures
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
