Job Description:
ASRC Federal is seeking a results-oriented Senior Database Engineer to join the Department of Homeland Security Team, providing support to the Transportation Security Administration’s. The right candidate will help optimize the performance of our organization's databases. You will be enhancing our data storage capacity, writing new support programs and scripts, and troubleshooting database code. The Database Engineer should exhibit knowledge of best practices in database management and experience with transactional databases and data warehouses. A top-notch Database Engineer will be someone whose database optimization skills translate into the efficient flow of information throughout an organization.
The right candidate will have a minimum of 5-7 years in the capacity of a Database Engineer. The position is full-time, and the place of work will be a combination of Reston, VA and telework.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Assist in design and development of database systems.
- Optimize database systems for performance and reliability.
- Perform database maintenance and troubleshooting activities.
- Test database systems and perform bug fixes.
- Provide database solutions based on technical documents and business requirements.
- Develop database functions, scripts, stored procedures and triggers to support application development.
- Provide technical assistance to resolve all database issues related to performance, capacity and access.
- Ensure data integrity and quality in database systems.
- Maintain standard policies for database development activities.
- Identify and rectify database errors in a timely manner.
- Create physical and logical database models as per the business requirements.
- Manage and monitor performance, capacity and security of database systems.
- Prepare documentations regarding database design, configuration and change management tasks.
- Mentor database administrators to manage the company databases effectively.
- Perform data back-up and archival on regular basis.
- Bachelor’s degree in information systems, information technology, computer science or similar technical degree,
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in in software engineering and Database Engineering.
- US Citizenship is required.
- Ability to successfully pass the DHS background investigation.
- In-depth knowledge of Structured Query Language (SQL) and RDMSs including Oracle and SQL Server.
- Extensive experience with database technologies and architecture including transactional databases, data warehouses, ETL processing, and archiving.
- Sound knowledge of best practices in Database Engineering and data security.
- Prior relevant experience should include: formulating logical and physical data models to meet new requirements, deploying updates to database schema with software releases, database tuning and optimization, query optimization, data migrations, data archiving, and implementing security requirements
- Time management skills and capable of working productively in potentially remote environment.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work with a small, focused team under strict deadlines and changing priorities
- Exceptional problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong verbal and written communication are required.
