We are looking for a Senior Data Analyst to join the City of Charleston's Police Department! In this role, you will lead the preparation of data on crime and perform complex professional analyses to assist the daily operations of the police department.
- Leads and trains staff in the use of crime data analysis.
- Builds advanced SQL queries, databases and reports.
- Analyzes crime and incident data to identify patterns and trends and reports on findings.
- Assists in the gathering of data for weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports.
- Performs a wide variety of research, data collection, and synthesis of law enforcement projects.
- Enhances GIS technology by transforming data into actionable products to visualize, question, analyze, interpret, and understand data to reveal relationships of patterns and trends.
- Provides critical support to police units and on-going investigations with database queries, statistics, crime mapping, and in-depth data analysis on demand.
- Identifies inconsistencies or data quality issues that may arise among various sources of information.
- Prepares conclusions and forecasts based on data summaries.
- Assists in the production of analytic products for presentations in law enforcement and in the planning of law enforcement activities.
- Works with other divisions to identify, evaluate, and report on major crime activities, crime patterns, and crime trends to analyze relevant data and enhance law enforcement capabilities.
- Advises personnel of crime patterns and anticipated criminal activity.
- Responds to requests for information from sworn personnel, external law enforcement agencies, press, private citizens, and city management.
- Facilitates the creation and publishing of data for public review.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) with major course work in information technology, computer science, criminal justice or a related field and 1 year of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Related experience includes work with analytics, data science, statistics and/or crime statistics.
- Valid state issued driver's license.
- Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office or similar software; ArcMap and Geographic Information System (GIS) concepts and functions.
