Bristol-Myers Squibb (BMS) is seeking an Intellectual Property attorney to join BMS' cell therapy research and development center in Seattle, WA.
The Senior Counsel position will support clients across multiple functional areas to build and leverage BMS' Intellectual Property interests, with a focus on cell and gene therapy products and processes and biologic products for treatment of oncologic, hematologic and immunologic diseases. Responsibilities include providing strategic counsel on all facets of Intellectual Property law, including procurement, enforcement, freedom to operate, and business development, as well as legal counsel to the Research & Early Development organization. The attorney will work closely with clients in various functions in a dynamic, growth-oriented environment and will collaborate with other in-house and outside attorneys to accomplish BMS objectives.
The ideal candidate possesses the following qualifications:
The starting compensation for this job is a range from $200,000 to $275,000, plus incentive cash and stock opportunities (based on eligibility).
The starting pay rate takes into account characteristics of the job, such as required skills and where the job is performed.
Final, individual compensation will be decided based on demonstrated experience.

- J.D. degree or equivalent and admission to at least one State bar.
- Minimum of 8 years of patent experience in the biopharmaceutical field, preferably including at least three years working in-house for an innovative biopharmaceutical company.
- Registered to practice before the USPTO and eligible to practice in Washington or obtain a limited license for in-house counsel.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in the biologic or related sciences. An advanced degree and/or scientific research experience preferred.
- Excellent analytical, written and verbal communication skills.
- Service-oriented focus with ability to work as part of cross-functional teams and drive results.
- Highest integrity, excellent judgment and the ability to proactively recognize and effectively assess business risk and communicate legal issues to management across patent, legal and general business functions.
