The Senior Counsel, Intellectual Property position resides in the Legal department at CableLabs. This department leads all legal, technology policy, and Intellectual Property activities for CableLabs and its subsidiaries. Our team plays a crucial role in a variety of complex business transactions and is responsible for all compliance, corporate governance, Intellectual Property protection, and technology transfer functions. The candidate will work closely with the company's Vice President of Intellectual Property and outside counsel to evaluate the patentability of innovations.

We are looking for a business-oriented Intellectual Property attorney to join a strong legal team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in protecting and managing the company’s Intellectual Property assets, while providing strategic advice to support the company’s business objectives.
What You’ll Do
- Prepare, file and prosecute patent applications;
- Manage outside counsel;
- Manage Patent Submission System/Pipeline;
- Work with inventors to assess inventions, assist with invention disclosures and identify patent opportunities, and conduct routine portfolio reviews;
- Exercise proficient knowledge of U.S. and foreign patent laws and procedures;
- Support development and implementation of overall company IP strategy;
- Manage budget, including development of filing tactics, monitoring cost/spend, and applying same to the direction of patent filings against backdrop of overall company IP strategy;
- Event coordination and administration of incentive programs related to IP initiatives;
- Support membership relations; and,
- Other duties as assigned.
What Is a Must Have
- J.D. degree from an ABA accredited law school;
- Member in good standing of at least one state bar and admitted to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office;
- 7+ years’ progressively successful and relevant legal experience, a combination of law firm and in-house legal department roles strongly preferred;
- 4+ years’ substantive experience in patent drafting and prosecution;
- Background with cable industry and/or telecommunications;
- Comfortable collaborating with cross-functional group, as well as an ability to self-direct and motivate;
- Strong communication and organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize projects; and,
- Ability and desire to innovate and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of systems, processes, and ways of working across the organization with the highest degree of integrity, respect, and commitment to CableLabs’ values.
What Will Set You Apart
- Experience with standards development and standard essential patents;
- Experience in technology transfer, patent licensing, software licensing, and patent pools;
- Background in software development;
- Experience with respect to Intellectual Property assets, information technology licenses, licensing compliance and other complex business transactions related to the development, protection, management and commercialization of technology and IP assets strongly preferred.

Compensation: The salary range is $182,000 - $227,000. This position is eligible for bonus incentive compensation up to 25% of base salary.
