DEPARTMENT SUMMARY

The Destination DC Sales and Services team positions and sells Washington, DC as a destination or meetings of all sizes. The Services team specifically assists customers with the support needed to execute a successful meeting.


POSITION SUMMARY

As a Senior Convention Services Manager, you will ensure customer satisfaction while carrying out the job duties listed below. You will contribute to our continued success by demonstrating unsurpassed service, a high level of integrity and ethical standards, and personal and professional dedication to our mission, vision, and values. You will be responsible for the servicing of convention groups utilizing between 5000- 7499 rooms on peak night that has selected Washington, DC as a future destination. You will report to Director of Convention Services.

A day in the life for you as our Senior Convention Services Manager may include:

  • Attend meetings like Convention Committee, Senior Staff, and other high-level meetings in the absence of the Director of Convention Services
  • Represent Destination DC at pre-cons at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in the absence of Sales and Services leadership
  • Assist the the Services team in collaboration with the Director of Convention Services
  • Analyze customer needs to connect them with appropriate media, partner vendors, or partner suppliers
  • Send leads/referrals to members on obtains services on your customers behalf
  • Prepare correspondence, convention center event resumes, pre-promote report cards to distribute to members
  • Connecting with Connected Campus members for updates and relationship building

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Promote the services of Destination DC to definite meeting planners-including staffing services
  • Attend clients' pre-convention and post-convention meetings
  • Visit clients at their meeting location to ensure everything is running smoothly during their convention. This means the occasional weekend based on convention/meeting schedule
  • Obtain biweekly housing pickup from clients and update citywide pace reports
  • Gather final pickup and attendance information within 60 days of meeting conclusion
  • Verify room blocks for definite groups
  • Ability to travel two-six times a year for client show visits, conferences, and sales missions
  • Attend association events as assigned by the Director of Convention Services
  • Maintain CRM data integrity, including trace notes in Simpleview, update account contacts, and tag clients for events.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Convention Services


WHAT YOU BRING: EXPERIENCE, COMPETENCIES & EDUCATION

  • Minimum 5-7 years meeting or event planning experience is required, senior experience is preferred.
  • Technical proficiency with Microsoft Office and destination management software systems required.
  • Bachelor's Degree (B.S./B.A.) from four-year college or university preferred but not required.
  • Training experience, with participative management style and direct supervisory experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of and enthusiasm for Washington, DC facilities and amenities.
  • Superior organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends.
