We are seeking a Senior Controller to join our team! In this key role, the successful candidate will oversee the current and future financial health and planning of Hover Senior Living, a not-for-profit organization. The Senior Controller will report to the CFO and is responsible for constructing:
a) A sustainable financial structure that effectively maximizes the utilization of limited resources to meet the non-for-profit’s mission, goals, and aspirations.
b) A sustainable and dynamic business model that finds the necessary revenues and efficiently manages expenditures over fiscal years.
c) A sustainable financial function and organizational infrastructure that supports and contributes to organizational success.

Organizational Strategy
· Oversee financial operations for all aspects of the continuum of care, including independent and assisted living and skilled nursing;
· Monitor cash flow and liquidity to support operational and strategic objectives;
· Work with the operations team, translating financial strategies into actionable operational plans;
· Works with the CEO/CFO to coordinate planning and establish priorities for the planning process;
· Assists the CFO in the development of long and short-range operations plans that may include service demand analyses, resources availability analyses and cost benefit analyses of proposed capital;
· Development, analysis and interpretation of statistical and accounting information in order to appraise operating results in terms of profitability, performance against budget, and other matters bearing on the fiscal soundness and operating effectiveness of the organization;
· As a thought partner with the CFO and CEO, develop strategy to ensure the organization has the financial resources needed to achieve its goals, while mitigating financial and operational risk. Provide financial modeling for business growth;
· Develop and maintain effective working relationships with key financial partners.
Financial Performance & Viability
- Understand revenue cycle management across all three levels of care, including Medicare and Medicaid billing. Understand and help manage financial risks;
- In partnership with the CFO, lead annual budgeting process, analyze actual results against budgets and forecasts, and provide ongoing financial analysis;
- Responsible for producing monthly financial reporting with budget-to-actual variances for stakeholders, including the executive team, the Board of Directors, and Department Directors;
- Continually analyze financial data and present financial reports in a timely manner; clearly communicate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements; monitor progress and changes and keep senior leadership and the Board of Directors abreast of HSLC’s financial status;
- Primary interface with auditors on annual audit;
- Responsible for managing banking and other external relationships;
- Ensure the organization maintains compliance with debt covenants required by our lenders;
- Control the cash flow position throughout the organization, understand the sources and uses of cash, and maintain the integrity of funds, securities and other valuable documents;
- Provide cash flow projections;
- Ensure that effective internal controls are in place and compliant with GAAP and applicable federal, state, and local regulatory laws and rules for financial and tax reporting;
- Review all journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end/year-end reports;
- Oversee Accounts Receivable/Payable activities ensuring rents are collected timely and bad debt is controlled and within budget;
- Oversee bi-weekly payroll;
- Ensure accounting internal controls are in place to avoid an adverse audit results;
- Assist the CFO in developing more controls and visibility over the organization’s donation cycle, the differences between restricted and unrestricted and other forms of donations, and the nuances of public-private partnerships;
- Develop and maintain all accounting policies and procedures;
- Work with auditors to manage fixed asset activities and record proper depreciation amounts;
- Assist with migration to NetSuite – go-live date February 2024.
Leadership
· With CFO, provide leadership, direction and management to the accounting team;
· Ensure direct report team members are properly screened, hired and trained;
· Maintain networks with multiple stakeholders, work with non-financially oriented staff, and determine how to measure success in a culture that emphasizes mission over the financial bottom line.
Requirements:· Bachelor’s degree in accounting;
· CPA or MBA preferred;
· Minimum of 5 years financial Management experience, 2 years in a senior leadership role;
· 5+ years in a healthcare/long-term care/skilled nursing organization preferred but not required; Knowledge of skilled nursing revenue cycle a plus, ability to learn it a must;
· Strong Financial Analysis and Modeling Skills;
· Exceptional communication, leadership, and strategic thinking skills;
· Collaborative mindset;
· Understands non-profit budget models, contracts, and regulatory requirements; non-profit experience preferred;
· Demonstrated ability to streamline accounting processes;
· Strong interpersonal skills, ability to communicate at all levels of the organization;
· Working knowledge of GAAP;
· High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation.
