Our Design team is dedicated to designing and delivering integrated, highly creative, and innovative retail environments crafted to maximize H-E-B's brand commitment.
As a Principal Architect, you'll provide project leadership and oversight to ensure consistency with H-E-B's brand and design standards that enhance H-E-B's Customer experience. You'll be responsible for the work of internal and external Architects and Designers assigned to your projects. In this position you will help support H-E-B’s remodel program for existing facilities. You will be responsible for development of proposed scope of work,  design development of drawings, collaborating with multiple stakeholders,  review of construction documents generated by consultants, provide guidance and be the owner representative of the design intent  during construction.

We are looking for:
- a bachelor's degree in architecture or equivalent
- Licensed Architect in the State of Texas
- 12+ years of experience
What is the work?
Leadership:
- Provides leadership and oversight of project plans to ensure consistency with H-E-B's architectural standards, strategic objectives, and goals
- Serves as lead project manager and oversees the work of Architects and Designers assigned to projects
- Provides training, coaching, and mentoring to less experienced architects and designers
- Represents H-E-B at jurisdictional meetings, as required
Design & Development:
- Leads the development of design ideas, concepts, and specific solutions that will deliver results described as creative, impactful, cost-effective, Brand-right, productive, genuine, resourceful, timely, and complete
- Leads the development of design solutions that positively influence the character of the retail environment within and surrounding the facility in terms of volume, color, lighting, materiality, texture, durability, sustainability, circulation, signage, way-finding, and graphics
Project Management:
- Manages projects from conception through completion, while effectively communicating with consultants; manages overall timelines and milestones for multiple, complex projects
- Represents the design team at project meetings
- Leads initiatives to obtain project data and establish program requirements
- Manages vendor relationships as needed, and depending on project requirements
- Leverages advanced knowledge of building codes, zoning laws, Texas Accessibility Standards, and related construction ordinances / regulations to advance project and department goals
- Establishes criteria to develop and evaluate project scope
- Leads the review of project plans
- Develops QA standards for projects
- Leads project cost analysis; evaluates the impact against business models
What is your background?
- Bachelor's degree in architecture or equivalent from an accredited university
- 12+ years of design experience in the built industry
- State of Texas Architectural Registration
Do you have what it takes to be a fit as an H-E-B Principal Architect?
- Expert knowledge of building systems and their coordination / integration (structural, architectural, MEPR); building codes, environmental regulations, handicap accessibility codes and the direct application of such; dynamics / application of site and landscape design; sanitation concerns and regulations and how to apply; appropriate materials use and methods of construction; influence of specifications and criteria development
- Advanced understanding of project scheduling and how to leverage expertise
- Proficiency in graphic design and the use of color, form, scale, and texture
- Advanced project management skills
- Computer application and software skills (AutoCAD, Revit, Blue Beam, MS Office)
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and shift focus between projects
- Ability to use 2D and 3D presentation graphics
