Basic Function

The incumbent is a dedicated and talented professional who will provide materials synthesis, chemical interactions, characterization as well as oilfield chemical application testing to support the advanced oilfield chemical products development at the Aramco Research Center―Houston. The individual may have work experience relevant to synthesis of polymers, organic-inorganic hybrids, porous materials, CO2 and hydrogen storage, and hands-on experience on advanced characterization techniques.
 

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Play a key role in scale-up, analysis and application of novel materials for the energy and environment application.
  • Characterization of CO2-substrate interaction.
  • Knowledge of hydrogen and hydrogen interactions with materials is highly desired.
  • Contribute to product trials, analysis of results, and recommend modification to procedures and chemical formulations
  • Performs highly complex analytical tasks requiring many steps, through planning and/or use of advanced and sophisticated equipment and instrumentation.
  • Assists in training of non-professionals, especially in his area of experience.  Within limits, consults with and advises people requiring help with specific technical problems.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to maintain high quality occupational health, safety, & working environment based on HSE rules and regulations.
  • Performs relatively complex laboratory analyses. Uses sophisticated and advanced equipment and instrumentation where necessary.
  • Performs complex sampling tasks which may require several steps and extra safety precautions and may need on-site analytical work performed.
  • Demonstrates task performance in the training of junior staff as directed by his supervisor.
  • Perform general laboratory maintenance to ensure that the laboratory is in full compliance with all safety, environmental and health regulations and procedures.
  • Operates, adjusts, and maintains scientific instruments, including, but not limited to pH meters, spectrophotometers, electrophoresis apparatuses, chromatography apparatuses, flame photometers, fluorescent immunoassay refractometers, particle counters, microprocessors, analytical balances, autoclaves, and compression testing equipment.
  • Coordinates the work of other Laboratory Technicians by scheduling assignments and overseeing the work.  Assures the work quantity and quality by requiring strict adherence to methods and procedures.
  • Conducts research experiments in accordance with laboratory and safety protocols. Collects field and/or laboratory measurements and data. Computes results for a variety of research procedures, tests and techniques.
  • Maintains accurate records of procedures used to conduct experiments. Uses laboratory/computer equipment to conduct analyses of experiment data. Provides routine interpretations of analyses.
  • Handles and disposes of hazardous and non-hazardous materials in accordance with safety protocols.
  • Maintains and organizes laboratory supplies. Monitors inventory levels and orders or secures supplies as needed.
  • Conducts library research to assist in the planning and design of experiments.
  • Performs other miscellaneous duties as directed by the supervisor.
     

Education and Experience

  • Minimum high school graduate. Two (2) years college or an Associate Degree in related-science major preferred. BS in Chemistry/ Chemical Engineering/ Materials Science with 3 or more years of experience in chemical industry or oil/ gas industry preferred, seven (7) years industrial laboratory work experience preferred. M.S. degree highly desired.
  • Must be able to communicate and comprehend accurately, clearly, and concisely in English at a level required to perform the job as outlined.  Must have ability to make professionally effective presentations, both oral and written. 
  • Knowledge of laboratory tests and analyses.  Knowledge of laboratory terminology and equipment.
  • Experience in the area of spectroscopic and crystallographic techniques, handling of high-pressure high temperature instruments is required.
  • Must possess good work habits, a strong work ethic, and be able to adhere to company work hours, policies, and standard business etiquette.
