Opening Full Time 40 hours Grade 053 Psychiatry SMH Crisis Responsibilities GENERAL PURPOSE: Provides counseling services under direct supervision as a member of an interdisciplinary treatment team treating individuals with substance use disorders. Assisting in the development of treatment goals for those individuals. May have supervisory responsibility for other team members.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Group and Individual Therapy Demonstrates ability to work as cotherapist in group therapy for alcohol/drug dependent persons and has a working knowledge of the concepts underlying group therapy including role of feelings, defenses. Establishes long term counseling relationships with patients. Co-facilitating groups with Peer/Family Adovcates.

Evaulations/Referrals Performs intake evaluations by direct interview of persons applying for treatment. Assesses chemical use history, including type, quantity, frequency and pattern of use of licit, prescription, or illicit substances including psychological, social, legal, medical, psychiatric, financial, vocational and educational consequences; history of treatment efforts including detoxification, rehabilitation, drug-free treatment, chemotherapy programs; assesses patients for symptoms of psychological dependence, motivation for change, personal resources. Assist social work with the referrals as deemed appropriate for the determined level of care.

Documentation and Treatment Plans Documentation and patient treatment plans Gathers family historical data concerning drug and alcohol usage; relationship, current functioning; prepares oral and written clinical reports of interview data to be reviewed at multidisciplinary intake review and diagnostic conferences. Develops and carries out counseling of drug/alcohol abusing or addicted patients in the context of a comprehensive treatment plan. Demonstrates ability to communicate treatment team decision to patient and to assess developments that require conference with other members of interdisciplinary team.

Continuing Education for Faculty and Staff Creates and facilitates education for inpatient staff and faculty Maintains continuing education in knowledge and skills affecting the discipline of Chemical Dependency counseling, including attendance at in-service meetings. Collaboration with Community Programs Establishes communication using established rules of confidentiality and laws concerning rights of patients and uses correspondence with other health-related agencies, employers, criminal justice programs and social service programs in order to assess reasons for referral or applicant's legal or social service status. Incorporates these data into diagnostic team assessment evaluating the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual needs of the patients and their families.

Additional Divisional Support Attend staff meetings and remain in compliance with departmental standards etc. Provide consultation services as needed for the Pediatric Inpatient Psychiatry unit. Other duties as assigned REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Master's Degree from a related Certified as a NYS Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) or (CASAC-T).

If CASAC-T upon hire successful completion of examination to remove the (T (training)) designation must be completed within 12 months of hire. 1+ year experience in a Chemical Dependency program, preferably in a inpatient or residential levels of care; or an equivalent combination of education and experience Availability to work a flexible work schedule including occasional evenings and weekends, effective communication and teaching skills, and the ability to empathize families and/or support systems Certified as a NYS Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) or (CASAC-T). If CASAC-T upon hire successful completion of examination to remove the (T (training)) designation must be completed within 12 months of hire.
