Summary
The Sr. Plant Buyer will be responsible for managing the daily purchasing activities ensuring that the required raw materials, finished goods, equipment, supplies, contracts for services, and capital equipment are procured at the lowest cost with the highest quality, support safe operations, and are consistent with the needs of the plant. The ideal candidate is
process-oriented, proficient in working through discrepancies and providing resolutions, and has a high degree of customer service.
Essential Duties
  • Monitor delivery of materials and services to meet the production needs of the plants.
  • Prepare and execute, in conjunction with the Legal Department, supply agreements, which will fully protect the Company against missed deliveries, shortages and outages, poor material quality, and other performance issues that could affect production.
  • Partner with plant personnel to locate and develop new sources of supply and offer lower-cost alternatives.
  • Monitor market conditions to stay abreast of and communicate potential changes that could affect costs and/or schedules.
  • Identify and implement process improvements that reduce cost and improve customer service.
  • Partner with Plant and Production Managers to understand and implement MRP requirements relative to material purchases.
  • With assistance from Corporate Purchasing and Plant Manager(s), develop and maintain a vendor network to support the planned production volume. Conduct ongoing communication, and negotiation, with established vendors. Consistently prospect for new vendors that add value and strengthen the established base.
  • Actively participate in plant teams to gain an understanding of the needs of the plant operations.
  • Actively participate in a positive manner to implement, support, monitor, and achieve plant metrics and goals.

  • Negotiate with suppliers for execution of Supply Agreements that achieve the lowest total system cost and which are in accordance with company policies and procedures
  • Track supplier metrics, communicate supplier performance, and forecast requirements, as needed, ensuring all purchases are consistent with quality and delivery requirements
  • Coordinate with internal customers to implement supplier changes as required; assist Plant buyers and internal customers on sourcing related issues
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands
  • Must be able to climb ladders and/or stairs and walk on open grating on elevated surfaces
  • Frequent sitting, walking, and standing, and occasional climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and balancing
  • Frequent use of eye, hand, and finger coordination enabling the use of office machinery
  • Oral and auditory capacity enabling interpersonal communication as well as communication through automated devices such as the telephone
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
  • Occasionally operate business machines
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds

  • Bachelor Degree in Business, Finance, Engineering, Accounting, or Logistics/Supply Chain required
  • 6+ years of related experience in a high-volume manufacturing, distribution, purchasing, production planning, and transportation environment preferred
