Job description

Under the director of the District Vice President, the Senior Executive Director is responsible for the day-to-day operations of an assigned YMCA branch, including membership, child watch, health and fitness, active older adults, aquatics, properties, volunteer and staff development, community relations and collaborations with community agencies, and assigned committees. As the Association’s leader in health and fitness, the Senior Executive is responsible for developing, coordinating, leading, and supervising the association’s health and fitness initiatives.


  • In collaboration with branch Executive Directors, supervises program directors and other assigned departments to assure sound operations. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions with staff, volunteers, members, and the community
  • Develops, coordinates, and supervises the association’s health and fitness initiatives ensuring the operational growth of the YMCA through increased revenue, program expansion, member recruitment, retention and pricing strategies
  • Oversees the hiring, training, development and supervision of staff. Represents and promotes the YMCA in the local community and develops positive working relationships with other organizations, businesses, and governmental entities. Develops, maintains, and models collaborative relationships with community agencies in service delivery area
  • Develops, manages, and monitors operating budgets for the specific branch areas and meets or exceeds budget targets
  • Develops standards and procedures to ensure the safety and maintenance of high-quality facilities, grounds, and equipment and ensures the implementation throughout the association
  • Develops and directs high quality relationship-based member engagement strategies
  • Identifies potential areas for cooperative programming to accomplish YMCA goals and works with staff groups to develop and implement programs. Fosters a climate of innovation to develop member focused programs and leads branch staff in the planning, development and implementation of new program initiatives and activities
  • Provides staff support/leadership to Community Support Campaign
  • Provides staff leadership to assigned committees of the Branch Council and Board of Directors
  • Assists in creating marketing and communication efforts to effectively communicate benefit to
    the community
  • Develops safety and program quality standards and best practices and ensures the implementation throughout the association
  • Completes other duties as assigned

  • Bachelor's degree in human services, social services, business or equivalent. Master’s degree
    preferred
  • Five or more years of management experience, preferably in a YMCA or other nonprofit agency
  • Knowledge and experience in all aspects of operations, including staff supervision and development, membership practices, program development and implementation, volunteerism, facility and property management and financial practices
  • Experience in management and development of volunteer involvement; ability to recruit top
    community leaders
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community, track record of building authentic, constructive relationships with others
  • YMCA Organizational Leader certification preferred
  • CPR and First Aid certifications may be required
